Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
99 Jun 25 Comment Thank you all so much for your comments - they are very valuable and I appreciate it a lot. I completely agree with you about the strange looking sky resembling a curtain/blind. I had not noticed it myself, but now I do and I see it clearly. I will try to do something about it. Many, many thanks and have a great day - we are over 100F here today which is not so nice.... 99 Jun 25 Comment What a dramatic view from your hotel window. I like both the sky and the rooftops, but also the beautiful light that you captured. The texture and drama are certainly there, but also the soft light, particularly the light on the roof tops. I do not know how you did it, but I wish I could do it too. The reflections are interesting, as they add depth and create fascinating leading lines. There are potentially many different stories in your image, but to me, it feels like a Nordic noir urban thriller by Henning Mankell. The overall mood is like the calm before the storm - suggesting danger lurking in this urban landscape. Jun 7th
99 Jun 25 Comment Wow. This is an engaging and intelligently stimulating image. You very cleverly play with the "Lost Places" theme by presenting a subject who is literally "lost" behind the exhibition boards. When I looked a bit closer, I saw another smart aspect that first escaped me - it is a "Rückenfigur", which adds to the sense of mystery and the story's questions. Do we really see her from behind, and is she leaving? I like it a lot. I also like how you play with geometry and how you build perspective. There are so many rectangles and leading lines that create a lot of interest and a strong composition. Some minor improvements could be to reduce distractions from the bright lights and perhaps darken the lines in the floor to emphasize their geometric patterns. Depending on one's taste or nitpicking, one could consider removing the sign to the left and the two boxes close to it, unless they contribute to the story. Jun 7th
99 Jun 25 Comment Thank you Kathleen. I enjoy your image so much. I really admire windsurfing, and in your image the story is clear - the effort and dedication of the sport comes through in the man's posture and gear. I think the image is perfect in Black and White since it emphasizes the textures and form. I love it as it is. My own efforts to do windsurfing some 50 years ago were catastrophic, ending up with me being rescued because I could not navigate back to the beach. So, to me, this sport is very much related to drama, and therefore I took your image into Lightroom and tried to increase the dramatic effects. I think your original is better… Jun 7th
99 Jun 25 Comment That woman's gaze is mesmerizing! Her captivating eyes create immediate contact and interest, while the dramatic hair, make-up and style of clothes together with the jacksaw at her right shoulder establish a gothic narrative. The background, the light and the shadows all add to depth and go hand-in-hand to enhance the gothic style. I have not many ideas for improvements, but maybe you could enhance the dramatic effects by deepening some of the blacks in the lower background and make the feathers of the jacksaw pop out more. 99 Jun 25 Comment Chaplinesque - what a wonderful new word to me. If I were you, I would consider entering it into competitions. I find your image relaxing to look at with a clean composition, good tonal range, effective use of negative space, and strong thematic consistency. I also like that the two dancers hold each other's hands. The lighting is wonderful, creating beautiful separation between the dancers and the background. The spotlight or filmic effect you added works very well. Maybe some actions for improvement could be to try enhance the vintage style. For example, you could try emphasizing the typical Chaplin hat and cane. Or subtle dodge the dancers' skin, add contrast and film grain on the whole image, etc. And I think I see a spot that can be removed at the left of the male dancer. Jun 7th
