99 Apr 25 Reply Thank you so much for your comment. I had not thought of your argument that the person in the image could be about to be consumed by the nothingness represented by the empty chairs. You are totally right, and I think it adds beautifully to the story. Great comment - thanks a lot.

Outer Banks is nice. Would recommend a trip to it. It is composed of several islands, all beautiful in different ways. One of them, Pea Island, is known for its many birds. So if you like photographing birds, it might be interesting to check it out.

99 Apr 25 Comment I am impressed by the way you have composed an image that is so fully convincing in all its parts towards one single story/theme. To me, it is a minimalist and simple composition that masterfully employs negative space, architectural details and a human figure to tell a story. A small lone woman totally absorbed by reading her book sits on a bench in the background of a sea of a textured wooden floor with clean lines that lead toward her. It puts me in a contemplative mood and makes me think of stories of solitude and isolation. This is further strengthened by the two architectural columns that somehow create visual barriers, making the woman seem even smaller and more isolated. So, to me, everything in your composition tells and strengthens the story. Very intelligently done. Apr 7th
99 Apr 25 Comment This is a beautiful capture of a lone leafless tree with a single bird sitting peacefully on one of its branches. The tree with the bird creates a strong focal point against the dramatic sky. Your photo takes me into a meditative feeling through its simplicity and isolation of the subject(s). The tonal ranges are excellent and the contrast between the dark tree and bright clouds creates visual drama, while the winding path takes my eyes for a trip around the image at the same time as it adds interest to the foreground. It is a striking image as it is now, but somehow, I wondered how it would look like with a slightly tighter crop, where the tree would be right in the center to emphasize its central position, the lone bird, the tree-sky relationship, as well as the curve of the path. What do you think? Apr 7th
99 Apr 25 Comment Wow. This is a beautiful and different wedding picture that I really like. The composition is just marvelous. You have created depth and storytelling through selective focus and a brilliant "point of view shot" that takes us viewers into the little bridesmaid's visual perspective. The fact that you have placed her off-center creates visual interest while the diagonal line from her to the bride and the grown-up bridesmaid guides the eye effectively. Fine textural details in the little bridesmaid's hair, flower crown, and dress are beautifully shot with excellent tonal range. You captured an intimate, candid moment that conveys the emotional atmosphere of the occasion. And all from the little bridesmaid's viewpoint. Fantastic. Apr 7th
99 Apr 25 Comment Peter, this is a lovely and interesting photograph that tells a story of these two ladies as well as the place where they are. The composition is well thought out and create visual interest in many ways, not least through the ladies contrasting positions - one gesturing emphatically while the other one listens carefully. The diagonal tablecloth adds structure, while the weathered wall creates contextual depth. The handbags seem to suggest that these two ladies know each other well and that it is not the first time they meet up for a chat and have lunch together. There's good tonal range throughout the photo with pleasing contrasts between light and dark elements. Apr 7th
99 Apr 25 Comment Barbara, I really appreciate your photograph. I did not know about Thomas Vanoost, but now I do thanks to you. What a fantastic and creative way to visually express feelings that one cannot see openly with the naked eye. In your photo, I can actually see the chaos and instability. It is very timely. And somehow it is like an impressionistic painting full of tension and uncertainty about the world we live in. You have managed to transform an ordinary street scene into a visual statement of time, space, and the fleeting nature of urban life. I feel inspired by your photo, and at some point in time I must also try to do something similar. Apr 7th
