Jan, I like this image a lot! A first glance you think that it is a cubist piece, but then you see all the other shapes mingling among the cubes. I could see myself discovering more and more things to look at in this piece. Like Bob, I was trying to find the dog, and although I couldn't see it yet, I expect that at some time in the future, it would jump out at me and bite me! I love when that happens! This would make for a nice piece to hang in a study, or library. |

Thanks Jan, I agree with you about wanting to make the death ray seem translucent and energetic - I tried, but could not come up with anything satisfactory. I do like Bob's version where the colors of the overall piece are darker and the ray is much brighter. This contributes to the feel of the ray as a form of energy (something like lightning.) |

Thanks Frans...yes, I know that the piece has a juvenile, cartoon feel to it. |

Frans, this is such a simple and pleasing image. Less is more. The layers are blended artfully - and I like the black frame within the photo. Was this, and the inscription in the lower left corner, there to simulate a Chinese artistic design? It almost looks like a tasteful picture postcard like those sold in art museums. All your editing choices were perfect! |

Bob, this is a pleasing image. Your manipulation of light with the gradient and blending mode creates an authentic feel to a battle scene during a lull in the action. If you were going for a vintage feel - perhaps you could have chosen a sepia filter, or simply de-saturated select areas to make the image appear weathered.
Can you describe where the feathered background is visible?

Thanks Bob - I like your version of my image! The darker palette suits it - and accentuates the death ray. Oh...and welcome to DDG #34! |

Calm down Patrick....I realize "there are good people on both sides." I know quite a bit about fascism -it goes with the territory if you happen to be Jewish, as I am. One would have to be blind to not see the parallels of the current government to that of Nazi Germany. Are you familiar with the term "kakistocracy" - because that's exactly what we have in this country right now. |
