Cool, Jan! The piece didn't speak to me initially, but after reading your excellent description of how you did it - it gave me a good sense of your process and technique. The result, to me, is a blend of Magritte and Lawrence of Arabia. I have one question, now that I am starting to pay attention to light source and shadows, where is the primary light source? |

Frans, this is an interesting composition. The white border you made within the image, along with the greens in the background and the red violin gives it a Christmassy feel - a gift box. I also like the way you cropped the background, bringing the street into the composition. |

Thanks so much Jan. I struggled a lot with these shadows - I am going to explore both the links you included in your comments - and hopefully I can start making shadows from a sound method. |

Thanks so much Steve! When I get off this bus (literally) I am going to ponder your excellent explanation and try it out in my image! |

Patrick - this is an ingenious treatment of a lava lamp. By removing the color, it clearly looks like an anatomic form from several different perspectives. It is simple and ingenious. This is a good example of less being more - something that I aspire to in my composites. |

Thanks Steve. Interesting comment about focal lengths - can you describe how that might have caused the floating effect of the subject in the room? Regarding a shadow for the liquid metallic sculpture...I couldn't figure how to do that. I am now trying to learn shadows. I satisfied myself by thinking that this unearthly form simply would not cast a shadow! |
