My first question was it going out of business or starting a grocery store. Taking a second look at the boxes made me realize that it would be a ratty grocery store. Your photo tells a story and a somber one at that. It is a good photo journalism shot. Repairs are evident but evidently to little and to late, a lot of material for sale but not enough customers and I wonder what went wrong.

Impact is strong. Your cowboy is not a dime store actor and has seen a lot of miles, dusty miles at that. Your colors and age add to the strength of the subject with dust, leather like face dirty well work hat. The multicolored scarf is new and pressed and it almost slipped by my eye.
The left eye is penetrating, brown in color but has a gray crecent on the right side of it. He might have missed a few eye doctors visits. You darkening the corners is very effective in keeping the eye on the face. Nice touch. Another lovely portrait. |

Composition is great. Contrasts between the elder person in gray garb, gray hair with the sun highlighting the color and the belt line that has all but disappeared (I know from experience) with the youngster in bright colored clothes, dark black hair and a youthful build is wonderful. The entire setting is one of spring time and the next generation.

Impact rests in the peaceful image as a whole. The B&W complements the overall feeling and removes any distractions in stray colors. Detail is nice but the distance from the pier and trees keeps the eye moving along the pier. This picture reads like I read a book and that is from the left to the right and the eye runs off of the right edge. A little more contrast in the tree line or pier might help and is just a thought.
