Isaac - Another masterful image. Great moment to capture with the water drops flying from the shake off. I can't help wondering if you thought you might become bear-food. You must have been pretty close to get this image at 145 mm. How safe did you feel? |

Hi Maria - Are the two bugs at top mating? Very nice macro shot. Love the vibrant colors. I might have cropped this one a little less tightly just to show more of the background, but it's very nice as is. |

Aloha Karen - What a treat to see a Red-headed Cardinal! I didn't know of that bird's existence before seeing your photo. Focus is nice and sharp and lots of vibrant colors - very nice. I like what you did in post processing removing the distracting branches. |

Hi Adrian - Wonderful photo! So cool to see an Albatross (of whichever type) cruising along. I love that the lower wingtip is just brushing the surface of the water.
I like the original too. I'm wondering how the original would look after a de-noise. I'm always vacillating between preferring close ups or environmental photos. If the bird were a little sharper in the original, which de-noise might do, it might be nice to see a little more of the bird's environment. But I like your processed version very much as is. Just a thought about another way to use the raw file. |

Well done Maria! I appreciate all the difficulties you describe. If it were me in a similar situation, I'd expect to take many terrible (e.g., out of focus) photos and I'd be thrilled if one or two turned out well. This one certainly turned out well! Great choice of settings for a sharply focussed cute little mouse and a nicely blurred background.
The only thing I could imagine doing differently would be cropping a little less to show more of the environment. In the original there is a bright whitish vertical structure at the far right of the frame. Just wondering if you tried the remove tool on that structure. Cropping is one way to get rid of it, but remove might work as well and permit a slightly less tight crop. Just a thought. |
