I think "hundreds of shots that are almost perfect" is what is required to finally get the perfect one. At least that's what I keep telling myself... |

Maria - Your photo captures a great moment of intimacy between members of two different species - very interesting. I'm not a Photoshop guy so can't really comment on your editing process. But, comparing the original to the final, looks like you did a great job bringing out the colors and adding the right emphasis. But in the final, there is a vertical strip near the left edge (approximately 1/4 the width of the full photo) that looks a little off (smudgy?) from the rest. I don't see anything comparable in the original and wonder if that strip was somehow a result of the editing process. |

Karen - Fantastic image! If your goal was to capture the tenderness, I'd say you succeeded completely! I like the crop a lot too. I suspect that it would be difficult to show more of the birds without loosing the intimacy. |

Maria - Those wasps may be common where you live but no wasp around here has such vibrant colors. Good choice for depth-of-field/aperture, nice to see the foreground petals sharp, the rear petals blurred and the wasp razor sharp. Great capture! Agree with Bruce that the image might have been improved if there was a little more room on the bottom, but it's great as is. |

Adrian - It's a really interesting image, but I think I prefer seeing the string and a bit of the fish, which explains the dolphin's behavior. The crop/zoom is nice for showing all the texture (and scars?) on the dolphin's skin. But without the string/fish, the dolphin's pose seems a little odd. Just a thought. |

Thanks for your comments Isaac. I agree with everything except the "extra" two legs. To me, those extra legs add to the story (an adult looking after two chicks) and say something about the relevant behavior (sometimes the chicks take refuge near or under the adult). So I'd opt to retain them, but agree with all the other edits and suggestions. |

Thanks Isaac. If you would say a few words about how you decided to set the right edge of the crop, or why where you've placed it is the right place, I'd appreciate the opportunity to learn from your comments. |

Bruce - This is (another) great image! The tones and highlights on the sea lion and the rock, and the blurred background are all fantastic and, of course, it's a great moment to freeze - just before the leap into the deep. If this were my image, one thing I might play with is the rear flipper, which is very dark. Have you tried to lighten that area? The darkness of that flipper tends to pull my eye away from the sea lion's eye and face, so seems potentially distracting. |

Isaac - This is a stunning image! The fur, the claws, the color - everything works. The only thing I could imagine doing differently is perhaps cropping a little tighter on the right side. Are there small insects buzzing around the bear's head? |
