Nice one, Kathy! Your crop is close and nicely balanced. One minor suggestion that might help this lovely bird stand out a little more is to select "background" and play with lowering the highlights a bit, making this Bittern more prominent. |

Sarita - I LOVE this image! Such fabulous texture in the feathers!
Something small but sometimes impactful to play with - in Lightroom select the eye and subtly play with Sharpen, Contrast, and Light to make the eye stand out even more |

Wow Jerry - exceptionally sharp image at 1250 - did you use a tripod? Only one thing I will suggest for you to play with … try lifting your shadows - play a bit to unleash more texture and detail on the underside of this amazing capture. |

Hi Gloria - I love this image and wish I had been there shooting with you! I have yet to see a Painted Stork. I do agree with previous feedback and can suggest that you jump into Lightroom and create a series of different crops to see which you like best. We all know the "story" we want to tell, but when we experiment with different crops and lighting (as allowable for our particular end use - i.e., PSA Nature v.s. Open), there can be many different editing options for the same image that create a fun series. |

Bernard - you've nailed this bird - sharp detail with enough background to tell the story but still set it apart. I agree this bird is similar-looking to a the US Purple Gallinule I've shot in southwest Florida. If not submitting to a PSA Nature category, I might suggest removing the dark area in the water below its bill to make the bird stand out more. But that edit would not be legal in a Nature submission. |

- Isaac - This is a delightful image - clear, sharp and a good story too! Handheld or tripod? I seem to have the best luck at 1/4000 too, although sometimes the light doesn't cooperate … |

Hi Jerry - Thanks for your comments - I wish I had captured this series of Spoonbill photos with a better camera but used my "beach camera" instead. So the quality and edit-ability isn't what I would prefer.

Hi Sarita - I'd been hoping to shootSpoonbills for many years and spent over an hour shooting fairly close. Unfortunately, my "beach camera" quality wasn't at par with my usual shoots so I'm somewhat at a disadvantage regarding quality and capabilities in these images. But I will continue working on this series as I love these birds. |

Hi Larry - Thank you for your comments - I have quite a few shots of this wonderful Spoonbill and will look forward to revisiting and editing this whole series. Perhaps I will re-post some "new improved" versions of this and other images I shot that day. The issue is that used a "lesser" camera (my old "Beach shooter") to capture these Spoonbill shots. I'd been trying to get Spoonbills for many years and when I came across this subject, I took the opportunity to shoot as long as I could (just not raw). Perhaps some of the newer Topaz & On1 options will be helpful -does anyone have a preference on which is giving you better results? |

Thank you for your feedback - I thought I was "between the goalposts" of over/underexposure in Lightroom - guess not! This was an older image using my "beach camera" and was not shot raw. I try to only shoot raw now - for good reason.
