60 Apr 25 Reply Thanks, Tom. I am well aware of their spitting and range! I did crop in for the final image so I was not that close. It was taken at the Living Desert zoo, so they keep visitors a good distance back. But I could not resist when its looked directly at me, and I was able to use masks to tone down the bright background light. It was moving in and out of an artificial shade. Apr 20th
60 Apr 25 Comment Thank you both. Camels are great spitters and very smelly, so I would not have wanted to be closer, but that momentary straight-on gaze was hard to resist form this little lady. Thank goodness for post-processing, which can help us rescue our setting mistakes sometimes. Apr 15th
60 Apr 25 Comment Very striking image, Dean. I do not know what difference the IR makes but converted to B&W, you have the full range of tonality with lots of diagonal lines among the various rock leading your eye from the bottom right to the top left. And the clouds add additional drama, setting off the rock peaks against shades of white that dissipate into tiny pockets of clear sky by degrees, giving the effect of mist almost. I might try to mask the slightly light patch of grass above the rock around the power point of the lower horizontal line and right vertical line and tone it down a tad to see if it prevented my eye from being drawn there. But otherwise, I see nothing to change. Apr 15th
60 Apr 25 Comment Anne,

Capturing birds is always a challenge,; well spotted and good reflexes! I did the same thing with my photo this month; I did not adjust my camera settings when I saw a photo opportunity because I thought I would lose the moment. We both got photos we could work with in post-processing but not necessarily ideal ones for competition.
There is not much adjustment to be done that I can see. I probably would remove the little bits of floating debris from the water in the right hand corner and then to the left of the bird in the middle section. Then, I would mask the eye and see if I could saturate the color more to make it more visible and set it off from the orange around the eye. The eye is more yellow. It does not have a light capture, but even so, it would be nice to make it more prominent.
