60 Mar 25 Comment Dean,

I tried the photo using the mullions as a single frame in the middle pane and did not like it as much. I also had tried a crop to the edge of the left vertical mullion and preferred it with the little bit of the next pane showing. I have converted it to B&W and like it even more; it emphasizes being in the middle of nowhere more dramatically.

60 Mar 25 Comment Since you have not indicated what specific image you wanted to capture before sending the drone up, it is hard to assess if you were successful or not. Compositionally, the horizon line is almost in the middle of the photo, which ordinarily makes it hard for the eye to know which half to work with first. But the winding water eventually leads one from the bottom left through to the top right of the bottom half more or less. The three vertical strokes- the road, driveway, and dirt gulley- I find distracting. I agree with Erin that the land areas would benefit from opening the shadows and possibly by adding some vibrance. It looks promising for capturing some stunning landscapes in the west. Mar 10th
60 Mar 25 Comment Erin,

You have chosen a difficult image to capture well. The original shows more of the horizontal branches of the tree on the right, but from your angle, and probably any angle, you could not do the same on the left because of the interference of the neighboring tree. You made the best of your restricted situation by cropping, but in having to do so, you have lost some of the tree's natural shape the drew your eye in the first place. The loss of the darker contrast in the background in the original leaves a lot of small branches that add busyness to the photo, in spite of the lovely soft snow. Dean's version provides better contrast overall I think. Try cropping more off the top and see if you like it.

60 Mar 25 Comment Rita,

The atmospheric fog gives nice mood. I like the boat in the picture. It is not a landscape really with the houses in the fog; but your crop does capture the enthusiasm of those who will fish in almost any weather. You have placed the boat approximately on the left third vertical line and it feels well-located. I would be tempted to take more water off the bottom and possibly a little off the sky if that does not leave you with too few pixels overall, given how much has been cropped.

Is this straight out of the camera or did you do some editing? You only submitted one picture. The water droplet is clearly meant to be the focus and draws the eye, but so do two other elements. I wonder if you considered cropping out some of the background? Right now there are two main foci- the two yellow stamens, one on the left with a droplet and a smaller one behind to the right, and then the one on the right with no droplet. The flower petal to the right of the second stamen also draws the eye to the end with its two light triangles. I do not know if your pixel count would allow you to crop fairly drastically or not. It seems you mean the droplet on the left to be the main focus, so I suggest you play with seeing how you can do that more effectively. The soft background and wonderful color really helps set of the droplet.t
