Today was 104º F in my town in California. I would not have wanted to be out shooting photos of birds, though at 9:00 AM we were only 75-80º. I commend your effort getting this photo of a very handsome bird. We can't always choose our backgrounds, but the exercise of capturing a well-focused image of a hunting bird always has value. Herons here often catch crayfish and frogs. I have not seen one eat a small bird. |

Great photo. I like the detail and sharpness of the body. I don't mind the wing blur, it makes me appreciate the sharp body all the more. I agree with Tom that a little cropping in would be okay, but not much. I can't imagine catching a dragonfly in flight like this. How long did you spend trying? Very impressive! |

Love the action you captured, Barbara. The opposing colors of the two birds add to the contrast, like two opposing teams. I like what Tom did to get rid of the window. |

This image is impressive, as the others have said, for technology, planning, execution, and post-processing. The result is a very effective photo. And I find myself wondering how and where I could try a similar set-up. You and this group are very inspiring. Thank you. |
