Adrian - definitely your proposed crop provides an alternate interpretation of the scene - what is the person looking at? - forces the viewer to try to interpret what is going on.
I attempted another crop along your proposal - this time including the two people and removing the towering buildings- and the interpretation focuses more on their interaction.
Which one do I prefer? - this one which you inspired.

Thanks Pete - definitely looks better with more smoke and removing the bench distraction.

Pete - sounds like you demonstrated the patience of a fisherman - going back the next day to capture a great moment for the fisherman and a great photo for you.
I was curious to see what the image would look like by increasing the contrast a bit.

Mandy - you captured the stunning architecture and engineering of the station. Proves that even utilitarian spaces can be works of art.
I assume that this is a busy station - what did you do with the crowds?

Emil - great capture of very beautiful flowers. Your treatment brings out the delicacy and details of the petals.
Just a small observation - did you intend to leave a gray/white vignette on the outside edges of the background?

Chris - outstanding image. You chose a great vantage point and took advantage of the atmospheric conditions.
I see opportunities with various cropping ratios. I think showing more of the foreground rocks could also give you a third option.
Did you consider a long exposure to smooth out the water? |

Adrian - thank you for introducing the XPan format - I often use the 2.35:1 format and the XPan is wider and offers other possibilities.
I loved your image and the sentiments it evokes. I noticed that the sculpture features a Canadian flag pin ( Juno beach was the responsibility of Canadian troops on D-Day ). For purely patriotic reasons I cropped the image to show the flag.
