Pete - congratulations on a beautiful, perfectly exposed and processed image. Certainly does justice to this architectural masterpiece. |

Chris - apologies - I incorrectly used Emil's name in the heading in my previous comment. |

Emil - your description of developing film B&W images using Ilford paper and chemicals brings back a lot of memories spending time in a darkroom trying to get a good print ( sometimes by the morning) . I remember all the experimentation with different types of paper, developers, dodging and burning etc to get the right contrast and tonal balance . Those B&W images are still my favourite.
Your image clearly shows that there is a very real difference between digital and film/paper.

Emil - that is quite a feat technically. And also artistically - your idea to add the light beam to the lamp clearly creates the impression that it is nighttime. |

Mark - I like the feeling of silence that the image evokes. I feel that the fog is a key contributor to this feeling and wanted to show more of it in the edit that I attempted. Since there is very little detail in the ducks other than their shape I felt that the " atmosphere " could be emphasized. Other than a different crop and removing of some elements I also used the dehaze filter to add to the fog. |

Mandy - your street photography image is a great documentary on different transportation modes in a busy city. The cropping and B&W treatment are very effective to allow focus on the main theme. I found the original color image allows the 3 subjects ( tram, pedestrian and motorcyclist ) to stand out more individually - also I liked the reflections on the wet cobblestones. Just for the exercise I played around with contrast and cropping - |

Pete - thank you for proposing an alternate treatment. The dramatic sky creates a sense of danger . The sense I got when I photographed the workers was that they were in control and were going about their daily routine. Either version works for me - but for different purposes. |

Emil - I now find I use my camera less as with having the phone with me all the time I never miss a shot. And with capabilities such as extra wide angle, 5X optical Zoom and RAW it provides me a lot of versatility right in my pocket. Since I really do not print my images I also get well detailed photos. |
