9 Sep 25 Reply Thank you for your thoughts on this, Linda. I'm glad you were able to see what my intention was with this photo. With your suggestions and the suggestion of others, I think I can bring out the best of this image. Sep 19th
9 Sep 25 Reply Thank you for your suggestions to this, Sabine. I am glad people are able to see my intention with this image. I think brightening the image and adjusting colors slightly helps bring more attention to the rhododendron. I appreciate yours and everyone else's suggestions on this. For whatever reason, I got stuck with bringing out the best of this image. Sep 19th
9 Sep 25 Reply Thank you for your suggestions, Sylvia. I appreciate them. That's a good idea about shooting indoors while the weather is not cooperating. I could play around with still life photos and teach myself more about off camera lighting. Plus, there is always my dog as a subject... Sep 19th
9 Sep 25 Comment Linda, your image and description of it really describes the scene quite well. You can see the various groups interacting with themselves and each other. The overall sense of the pub, with its open doors, really is inviting people into it. Looks like a fun place to hang out with friends. Nicely captured. Sep 15th
9 Sep 25 Comment Sylvia, I think you have captured "Summer Fun" with this photo. The drink, the limes and the grass skirt suggest summer on some tropical island. Alternate shots of this, in addition to straight down, could be more horizontal with a backdrop of some sort that suggests the beach or a pool or some other summer time location. Sep 15th
9 Sep 25 Comment I like this photo. I like the diagonal aspect of the branch along with the vertical orientation of the new growth. Your crop and edits to soften the background really help to isolate the branch and new growth. Nicely done! Sep 15th
9 Sep 25 Reply Thank you, Yvonne. I like the bench in this image, too. It is a nice place to sit and contemplate, when there is no snow on it, anyway :)

I'll get out there with my camera again. Summer in central California can be very hot and dry and not very conducive for photography, at least for me.

9 Sep 25 Reply Thank you, Douglas. I appreciate your comments. I agree, Jim's edits to help the scene. Sep 14th
9 Sep 25 Reply I think your edits are fine and there is no problem with your edits not aligning with mine. I think my version is a little underexposed perhaps and you have given me ideas to work with on mine to bring out the rhododendron bush. Brightening the whites to be less gray is helpful with this scene. Sep 14th
9 Sep 25 Comment Douglas, this is a very peaceful scene. The area is very lush and green. What a nice way to spend the day lounging on the inner tubes in the pond. I would be interested in seeing the original image, too. I think this image looks nice the way you have edited it. Sep 14th
9 Sep 25 Comment What an interesting bridge. Having never been to Chicago, beyond the airport a number of times, and looking at the height which the bridge can be lifted makes me wonder about the size of the ships that sail along this river. They must be pretty tall to require this kind of clearance.

I might suggest you brighten the image a little bit more to bring out the detail in the towers and in the shadow areas beneath it. I would be interested in seeing a bit more of that detail.

9 Sep 25 Comment This looks like quite the event! One could spend hours photographing these ships. The contrast between these "old school" ships (for lack of a better term) and the more modern buildings in the background add interest to the image. The edits you did to brighten the scene helps to show what is going on and the crop helps focus on the ships in the harbor. Sep 14th
9 Sep 25 Comment Thank you, Jim. I appreciate your detailed explanation on what you did here. I think it is looking better than my version. Mine seems too dark and maybe that is part of my problem with it. I was limiting myself to try to maintain some detail in the snow. I clearly need to learn about using masks. I have color efex pro, but have not used it and wouldn't have thought to use it here. I should explore that software. I have only used silver efex pro for b&w conversions, which I think it does a very good job with. Thank you, again. Sep 11th
