Thank you, Linda. I appreciate your thoughts on this. It was very calm and peaceful while I was there. Not another soul on the beach. I agree that the centered moon, as suggested by Sabine, works well. |

Thank you, Sabine. I like your idea to convert it to black and white. Centering the moon also helps it, I think. These ideas give me somethings to think about. I will go back and play around with it some more. Thanks! |

Thank you, Yvonne. That is an interesting idea you have for framing the photo. I may just give that a try! Thank you for your comments. |

Sabine, here is the link to Franka Gabler's website: https://frankagabler.com/. Go to her portfolio link and it is the Ice-elation folder. Hope this helps with your journey into this type of photography.
I would suggest you look at her other folders, as well. I have admired her photography for years. She is really very good. |

Jim, you have really done well with this photo. The composition of this works great. I think the edits you have done improved the image and provide that separation from the background. The light shining off the dewdrop really adds to it. Without the original photo, I would not know it was small crop of the original. You had a good eye seeing this composition.
I appreciate your description of the edits you have done. It is amazing the improvements to Lightroom. I have not upgraded my Lightroom software so I am still using Version 6 (before they went to a subscription). Though I still use Lightroom to edit my photos, I am transitioning to other software for my editing and learning what others do helps me try new ideas with my photos. Masking is such a powerful tool to use. Thanks for sharing. |

Sylvia, I think you have captured this flower well. I also play around with shallow depth of field on flowers. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I think it works well in this photo. Personally, I don't mind how you have the flower cropped. You have given it a little room to "breathe." I do like Yvonne's suggestion of tilting the flower a little bit in the frame and Sabine's suggestion of increased saturation. I think both suggestions would enhance the image. Either way, I think its a nicely captured flower. |

What a great capture! You can really feel the spirit of the occasion in this photo. I think it is great you were able to get them to pose for you like that. And, it really is amazing the images that come from cell phones these days. Well done! |

Yvonne, I think you have done well to isolate this flower from the nearby flowers. Without the separation between this flower and the one immediately in front of it, it doesn't stand out as well. The edits you have done correct that situation quite well. I might suggest you darken the background in your image to something closer to the black and white background in the photo labeled "Original." I think it helps the color of the flower pop a little more. |

Douglas, I like your idea to convert this to black and white. I also see symmetry in this photo but I think the window shutter on the left side of the image throws off the balance, unfortunately.
I do, however, like the original image with the bench at the foot of the stairs. It is a very welcoming entrance, I think. As such, I have a different suggestion for the image. I also kept it black and white and cleaned up some of the branches in the upper right hand corner. It's just another idea to a nice image. |

Thank you, Jim. It was a peaceful morning to be out there with no other people around. Maybe I captured some of that with this image. Interesting to think about that. |

Thank you, Sylvia. I appreciate your feedback. Yes, moon shots can be challenging, especially this early in the morning and before coffee :) |

Sabine, I like what you have done with this photo. I think making the flowers a bit lighter was a good choice as they have a more even color, than the darker colors of the original. I think this balances the image a little better.
I don't know anything about this technique to help you though this image reminds me of an exhibition I saw in a local photo gallery a few years ago. The photographer is primarily a professional landscape photographer, but as I recall her saying, during Covid she was unable to get into the field as much as she wanted, so to keep photographing she started experimenting with freezing flowers in ice and taking photos of them. It was an interesting exhibition and a creative idea. I can share a link to her website, if you are interested. She has quite a number of these types of photos in her portfolio. |
