9 Feb 25 Reply Thank you, Linda. I like the idea of cropping a little more and will play around with that and see what I can get. Feb 18th
9 Feb 25 Reply Thanks, Sabine. I like your crop and edits of the photo. You seem to have ideas on photos I don't consider. I appreciate that and try to learn from those ideas. I was hesitant to crop too much if I wanted to print any of them. Feb 18th
9 Feb 25 Reply Thanks, Yvonne. I do play with the film simulations sometimes. I have found some I like, Provia for most situations, Astia for portraits and Acros for black and white. I like having the photos look good straight out of the camera, instead of always having to post process them. There are websites that have all kinds of formulas for different looks to their photos. It is fun to experiment on how the photos can look. Feb 18th

9 Feb 25 Reply Thank you, Jim. I will go back out there and practice some more and even try different auto focus settings on my camera to see what works the best for these types of shots. Feb 18th
9 Feb 25 Comment This is a really nice scene. Even though it was very cold, you still braved the weather to get the shot. I like that you converted it to black and white. I tried to play around with the image, basically trying to add some contrast and tone down the highlights a bit. Not sure if it is better than your version or any of the other suggestions by the group. Feb 18th
9 Feb 25 Comment What a great thing to see while out and about. And, you captured him looking straight at you. Timing is everything, sometimes. I think you got a great photo, Sylvia. Feb 13th
9 Feb 25 Comment What a creative idea you had here. I like the vivid colors and the circular motion. You captured the ribbons well in a way I would likely never consider. Good job. Feb 8th
9 Feb 25 Comment Good job capturing the action. I think you got yourself into a good position for photos in this game. The players are running into you allowing you to capture their expressions, as you said. It looks like your camera settings were good with high shutter speed to stop action. The high ISO is due, I'm guessing, to being indoors with less than ideal lighting. I would imagine your nephew likes the photo.

As far as the blurred background, I think it depends on the purpose of the photo. If you are trying to focus on your nephew, then a shallow depth of field would be good to isolate him and make him more directly the subject. If you are trying to capture the action of the game, more depth of field would allow more to be in focus. When I took photos of my daughter while running in cross country races in high school, I would try to keep the aperture as open as I could to keep focus on her. There were also times when I wanted more of the racers she was running against to be in focus. So, it just depends on what you are trying to achieve. Keep shooting his games, I think shooting sports can be a lot of fun.

9 Feb 25 Comment This photo has a dreamy quality to it, almost like a watercolor instead of a photo. I like the way you enhanced the colors to make it more vivid. Mirroring the image seems to be an effective edit in that my eye goes through the whole scene instead of stopping at the door in the original. In the original, my eye follows the path to the door, but doesn't get much beyond that. Nice photo, Sabine. Feb 8th
