Thank you for your comments, Yvonne. I agree the black and white conversion works better for this image. |

Sabine, another interesting photo. I like what you have done with the lighting and camera movement to make it an abstract photo. I also like the color you have chosen. The technique you are using for these photos is something I have never done, but I may give it a try. Nicely done. |

Yvonne, I like this photo with the various lines that create layers. Looks like a peaceful place to photograph. With scenes like this, I would take detours more often. The clouds add drama to the image. I like the editing suggested by Sylvia, it really boosts the colors and contrast. The cropping also helps make the photo more balanced. Keep going back to this place. |

Thanks for your comments, Sylvia. I can see your point about the building on the right being cut off. That was not something I considered when taking this. A lens wider than the 35mm I was using would have helped in that regard. The umbrellas are in a lower courtyard area of the building where people often sit for coffee or lunch breaks. Maybe a wider shot would have helped tie that into the rest of the scene. I'll try that when I go back there someday. |

Thanks for your comments, Sabine. I do like your conversion to black and white. I have been here several times over the years and a shot from a few years ago, I did convert to black and white, which is attached. I keep coming back to try different shots.
Using an older version of Lightroom for so many years, I rarely thought of removing portions of the photos that may be distracting. Probably because I wasn't very successful in removing them. Maybe with the new software I am using, that will change. |

Jim, this is a nice photo. I like the capture of the bees on and above the flower. You cropped the image very well to remove distracting elements. It amazing that the high shutter speed you used did not fully stop the motion of the bee's wings. Great shot! |

Sylvia, I like the composition of your photo. Placing the vase and flower off center works for this. The detail in the flower is good and provides a good focal point in the photo. And, you succeeded in having a dominate color! I am also trying to learn to use artificial lighting and have had similar problems with shadows. Were the lights set the same distance from the vase with the same power levels? Were you using some sort of soft box or umbrella on the lights? That may help soften the lighting to reduce shadows. Keep working with this, you'll get it. Some subtle changes could make all the difference. |
