Haven't seen the Canadien Bridge, although in my reading I learned that the State allocated monies for several country "Steel Girder" bridges at the time so it would not be a surprise to hear of others. thanks. If I ever get up North to Canadien again, I'll look for it. There are two near here (Georgetown Tx), one in G'town and the other east near a village north of Taylor......both on the San Gabriel River. |

fyi: the sign at the far end of the bridge (The black thing) says "Free Coffee Sunday Mornings" on the other side of it. That should be a lot of fun and would show the level of support the old bridge has from the very small community.

Using the old faithful Google search, I located it. I've been near there. really enjoy the desert and Hwy 50. |

I think the pieces on the mantle "fit" the environment nicely. I would not waste time removing them. They're like the pattern in the rug. They are there, and they are less intrusive in mono than in the color version. Could you increase the black to increase the contrast? I think doing that would reduce your concern about the mantle decor. |

I agree with Stephen's comments.
You might try to eliminate the lighter circles. I'm sure they represent something in the image, but they remind me of "photoshopping" activity. The flower, solo, against a black background has nice potential.

Good capture.
I tried, unsuccessfully, to select the background to make it either lighter or darker. You might try doing it. I couldn't. |

Tom and Stephen raise an interesting issue which I will leave to them.
I like your end result. So different from solo standing animals in bright African sun. |

I tried a couple simple things to increase the contrast:
Levels to 31/1.03/203 and Contrast to +28.
However, it did make the table very white. |

Nevada is THE place to go for this type of photography, along with dry hot days. This is super. I like Stephen's comment : A bit more contrast would make it more interesting, but it is nicely composed and should do well in competition.
