As you indicate: NEVER go into the Canyonlands on an unpaved road when it's wet, or threatening. Although sometimes not great, there are plenty of paved roads to use. AND, Always take plenty of water (to drink) and provisions to spend the night if you get a breakdown or get stuck. And, thirdly: Make sure somebody who is responsible knows where you plan to go and when you plan to return. These are truisms for all of the knowledgeable locals. It is prudent whenever driving back-country, wet or dry, to caravan with another vehicle; and it's lots more fun when camping to have a (compatible) group in the evening.
You don't want to reinvent these truisms.
If you want to experience doing the Utah backcountry from the comfort of your home, read one of the books by Edward Abbey (? Abby?) I've read all of them. |

The "Texas Longhorns" is the name of the mascot for the University of Texas and at times they can be ill-tempered and dangerous particularly when they lose to the Oklahoma Sooners.
Am I one of those graduates? NOOO way. |

I have serious (phofessional) photographer friends in Salt Lake City who, when a storm is predicted, load up and travel to Canyonlands and wait for it to clear. A light snow especially on the red rock country is quite impressive. |

I was one of a group of photographers in the Sun City Photo Club's Print SIG who judged the Photographic Society of America (PSA)'s Round Two of the 2021-22 international Inter-Club Prints Competition (ICPC.) A news clipping from today's local newspaper, The Williamson County Sun, is below. I'm the judge in the Red Shirt.

Different? Maybe make it the base for a Creative Altered Reality and place some characters in or on the tubes? |

An eye catcher indeed! I have a photo of a church with a leaning steeple and in an identical view. It always creates either a question or an interest.
My only suggestion, and it is minor, is to try to burn the dark sky a bit between the clouds. I think it could use a bit more contrast in the sky......without having to replace it with another. |

Re "subject matter:" This is my first exposure to the subject so that alone makes it interesting. On the other hand, although it is a work of technical art, which here is well done, is there a message or a story that I'm missing? |

I think the composition is just fine. I prefer the color (for a change) and if you could eliminate the eye-catching yellow at the top, or replace it with a more subdued color, the image would be stronger. |

Lovely composition.
Re contrast, I used only Levels and set the Black point from in a tree on the left margin and the White point on some snow in the foreground. Viola`.... contrast. Is this what you were attempting? |

Although I like and agree with Stephen's comments, I think your photo would get a "9" in competition as is. |

Hello, All: Did you see in the March 2022 issue of the PSA Journal (page 45) where PTD Editor Lynn Maniscalco mentioned that the Judging Team for the Photo Travel Division's InterClub (Group B) Competition Results included Brian Magor and Diana Magor along with Lyn Rostron |

Yes, indeed. This looks "real" in the Creative Altered Reality context. Nice work.

Right you are. The version with the music sung by Willie Nelson, "All My Exes Live in Texas," is the final rendition.
I don't think there is an "original" as in #1. The original is the color version, labeled Orignal 3. ( I managed to confuse the issue when sending to Diana. My fault not hers.)
Is it that time (to reply to DD32) already? We've got to slow down the clock/calendar somehow. |
