Yes, definitely, but as time passes, boredom can set in, so we explore new and crazy avenues.... and that's refreshing. |

Last month's image: Bald Eagle on torn paper:
Was at a VFW/DAV (Veterans) party last night and gave a copy of the eagle as a Birthday present. Two others asked me to sell them copies. Thanks for the good ideas. They do work.

Yes, indeed: I like what you've done and the composition therein.

I'm coming to the party late this month. Summarizing the comments about spotlight and background/shadow: Good ideas. the shadow "doesn't help" the image. When doing portraits, I try to place a large matte behind the subject, in a shade that enables me to fade or enhance it. Mostly fade. I see a lot of headshots with blue bakgrounds by professionals. |

Experimentation creates progress and then excellence. Good start here and good comments from the members.

In the process of re-doing this image (eliminate the sepia, add a better border, etc.) I found a way in NIK to do this. SilverEfex, unlike ColorEfex, has a series of pre-sets and when you pick one after another, each one eliminates the prior pre-set settings. I found a way to retain the "antique treatment" while "eliminating the sepia." Thus Two Nik settings. Interested? |

Thanks for the comments. Here's a re-work using NIK Dfine, then SilverEfex Default to get rid of sepia, then adjustments to Structure and Fine Structure, then Border #6.

I got to know many of the Cavalry Troopers. The pleasant and friendly expressions are natural for these two and many others in the Detachment. The Division goes to great lengths to select these soldiers who will be Troopers on display and who will represent the Cavalry and the Division along with the Army, to a large number of visitors and civilians. The Commanding Officer is now a Major-select and stationed at Fort Knox.

I don't know why I didn't think of the border. I usually do antique or wet darkroom borders. Good idea. thanks |

I hadn't thought about the embroidery on the blouses.....
Not certain which way I want to go: Authentic with no writing, OR to show how far the Army has come in recognizing women and racial minorities. thanks. Maybe I'll do both and use them according to the venue. |
