My wife is a retired professor of philosophy. We are presently at our summer home in her country of Turkey, near Izmir. She speaks Turkish, French, and English. I only know a little French, and just the names of foods in Turkish. What was your subject? I studied math. |

I second what Diana said about the borders and the diagonal line. I think it's a very lovely shot. |

That second shot is definitely better.
My usual comment about shooting upwards and having converging vertical lines applies here. It's the natural view that our own eyes see and the camera does not add distortion. That said, for compositional reasons you may want to reduce some but not all of the vertical convergence. |

I always love your Yosemite photographs. In this case, my only comment is that the falls seem to have dark shadows behind them. Perhaps this is obviously because the falls block some of the light falling on the rocks on either side. I can't decide whether that's an advantage or disadvantage. On one hand, the darker rock frames the brighter falls. On the other hand, that rock is a little dark and hard to make out detail. |

Thanks to both for the comments so far. They are very helpful.
About converting old slides to digital, I have two methods. I have never used my rather good Epson scanner which has a slide holder. Instead I bought a standalone box that you can insert slides into and it produces a JPEG on a thumb drive that you insert. I have noticed that it adjusts for overall brightness automatically. I spent about $60 on this. I think it's satisfactory. But of course the more you spend the better conversion you will get. When I get home in September I will send you all the brand name and model that I'm using. |

I think your comments are very helpful, and I am sure the others think so too. Your English is very, very good. Everything is correct and I have not seen any mistakes. I think you write at the university level. Where are you living and what is your native language? Do you speak other languages? |

Welcome to our group, Manel. You are making very substantial comments to everyone. Thank you.
I think by choosing a subset of the human body you have made a very interesting composition. I can see the addition of the necklace working in this case. I also think the texture of the skin is a big plus in this image. I completely agree with Diana's remark that partly dressed glamor photographs are generally terrible.

Yes, I also agree that the original more angular image was more interesting. I've often struggled with hand holding long exposures, so you did a great job with this one. I know that this is what you had to shoot and there were no choices, but for staircase shots I think at least one additional turn would make a stronger picture. |
