Hi David, I am visiting from Monochrome Group 32.
Your finished image is truly fantastic, and your colleagues have already commented on it extensively. I would just like to add a comment about the title. Since your finished image no longer expresses "Plant Seller" like the original did, why not use a title like some of your colleagues suggested, like "Ghosts," "A Dream," or my suggestion would be to play on Andrew Wyeth's famous painting and call this "Lucile's Memory." I discuss titles a lot in my group, because I feel an apt title supports the photo--I do not agree that a photo must stand alone without a title--at least not always. |

Hi Amparo, I am visiting from Monochrome Group 32.
I like your subject matter a great deal, and especially the image you developed in your group with a pure black background. I love the use of solid black.
The original lighting on this man is very directional, and I would like to suggest to take advantage of the drama of that, rather than light up his whole face. See my suggestion, only roughly done, of brightening the lights and darkening the darks overall. |

Hi Donna, I am visiting from Monochrome Group 32. This is a great finished image.
I like pure black a lot, and I don't mind if your car's body merges with the pure black background.
Why not title it "Black Beauty?" |

Hi Connie, I am visiting from Monochrome group 32. This pencil sketch option applies very well to the subject matter you shot. Really well done. I have a single suggestion. The dark diagonal stretches of pavement might be darkened to suggest a Mondrian pattern (but unlike Mondrian, the perpendicular elements would all be diagonals). |

Diana is right. All the backgrounds are dreadful. What about plain grey paper, like the classic photographers used? |

Michael, also, how about telling us a little about the camera you used. Sounds interesting. |

As always, I want to know about the lights. I am trying to read them from the image: a main light on the model's left, a secondary light for fill on the right? What were the distances and relative strengths? Reflectors? Umbrellas? I also notice that the cheek blush in the color shot is entirely gone in the mono--a good result as far as I am concerned--was that deliberate on your part? |

This is a really interesting effect. Seems purrfect for the subject. I am wondering if you made several tries at how much of this effect to use. Maybe just a tiny bit less so as not to get so much effect on the end of the nose. |

Can we see the original, so we can see how far you have taken this? |

Both images are very nice, since you caught a great pose. I don't find the weeds distracting (rather natural, actually) because they don't pester your subject. |

I like shooting a worker doing their job (especially since I did the same thing this month). My only suggestion might be to have moved slightly to the right so that the row of mannequins would make a stronger receding diagonal. Very good management of a difficult lighting situation--your finished images looks as if the lighting is even throughout. |

For this shot, can you recall the lighting configuration? The number of lights, their placement, distance, intensity, direction, and hardness/softness?
Did you interact with the model at all? Talk, give directions? How long did you have to shoot her?
There might be a lot to discuss here. |

Hi Dan, I am visiting from Monochrome Group 32.
I shoot a lot of "market collections," so my attention was really caught by your excellent shot. How nice that it is from your own production.
I shoot two types of such shots. One type is arranged displays like this, usually on market shelves. The other type is heaps or baskets of items strewn at random--I call them "Jumbles." I like to say that gravity has arranged them. Here is a sample. |

What nostalgia! One of my dorm friends sold Charles Chips on campus from 1963-67. After a while, the company gave him a step van for his work, he did so well. |
