No, I don't think it's too dark. But along these line you may find different opinions in our group. Most of the others are strong on a lot of contrast (everyone, do I represent you accurately?). I am not so strong on contrast, and I also like very much images emerging from complete blackness, like this one. I am fine with 50% of a frame being pure black. I don't believe my tastes correspond with success in competitions. |

VERY creative shot. Especially the way your subject floats in space. Interesting that "tranquil" or "contemplative," not "sad" come to my mind. |

I have shot so many of these all over Turkey. The bright sun and the ancient temple composition are always hard to work with. You chose to emphasize one receding line, rather than the two from your original--which I think was wise. You also cut out the side that had the worst shadows directly on the columns. I don't mind a little lean-back to convey the sense that you are looking up--that's well done. Human scale is conveyed by the size of the three steps leading up to the platform--better than putting a person in the picture, I think--I like architectural scenes empty of people, especially old architecture. Well done! |

I like to mono slightly better. Another fine shot of local people. The background is very well chosen and framed. I think this gentleman is very pleased to be posing for you. |

Gosh, I don't know. Maybe that was not a great suggestion. How about halfway between the two? |

The very best mirrors can approach 90% reflectivity. Most common mirrors are about 50%, but our brains are so adept at adjusting mentally to variations in light (as all photographers know from other contexts) that we don't even notice that our bathroom mirror has half the illumination of the bathroom itself. Tell you what--let's all test this out as photographers! Go into any room in your house and meter a scene in the room. Then meter the same scene reflected in the mirror. Report back here in this conversation chain and let's see what our results are. |

Very nice study in light and dark, and geometric shapes. I like how you brought out more texture in the structures on the left. |

Very fine composition. The reflection is darker and heavier (as expected since reflected light loses some intensity), so it gives a nice weight to the bottom of the composition. |

Wow, those roots and branches are fantastic. Unfortunately, I think Wes is right, that the green branches in the background compete with the main subject. I guess if I were doing it, I would select most of them and darken them considerably. |
