Gloria, thanks for your comments. I didn't try this before, but I really like cropping the right side to just barely remove that cattail on the right side. Also, the bottom slightly up to the top of that cattail stubble just left of center. |

Kathy, the background was only blurred optically - no digital effects. Shooting at 400mm and f-10 limits DoF. Then cropping the result down to 6% of a full frame sensor radically reduces DoF. Like what you'd get from a 1600mm lens at f-10!
Thanks for your comments. I hadn't given thought to the effect of the bird looking down into the nest, but it's clear in retrospect! I appreciate your comments. |

Kathy, I spent a few minutes in PS base, brightening the background in Shadow/Highlights, and then adding a bit of brightness in Brightness/Contrast. I'm not sure it's any better - maybe only different. Makes for an interesting alternative. |

I love the subject and composition. I wonder if lightening the image just a tad, might even increase impact? |

Striking! Priceless expression! You caught the moment. Blurring backgrounds in post-processing is difficult to do well, and you pulled it off very well. I assume that with only a 155mm lens, you had to do major cropping, and you still produced an excellent final image. Great photo! |

Pei-Fan, I love the photo. I think the tan/amber neck and head really make it striking!. I wonder if you were to crop it from a landscape shape to a square, removing the green foliage on the left, it might be even more striking? But either way, it's a great shot. |
