18 Jun 25 Reply Thanks for your comments Jan. You are right, it is crazy. See my comments to Bob. Welcome to the group. Jun 24th
18 Jun 25 Comment I like the toanlity of this and the way you have taken simple elements of line to make a beautiful composition. Normally I don't mind if some parts are chopped off but, in this case, you final version is more pleasing. The black and white conversion makes it more ethereal. Jun 24th
18 Jun 25 Comment As I may have mentioned before, I'm not a fan of the twirl filter but this is an exception. It has worked beautifully to give this impressionistic result, which you have enhanced with other work. I might have liked a bit more tone in the light centrepiece. I agree with you, often a border is good for completeness. Jun 24th
18 Jun 25 Reply That's fine Bob, we're all different - which is good. I really appreciate that you consider and think about my pictures, even if they seem to make no sense. After all, they may not make any sense at all! Jun 12th
18 Jun 25 Reply Hi Bob, One of the things about surrealism is that it juxtaposes irrational elements, and yet gestalt theory tells us that humans will always try to make sense of images - so I think Ian is right - you make your own connections and story. So, in that sense, see the picture as a challenge to imagination. Thanks for your comments. Jun 12th

99 Jun 25 Comment I like this very much. It is in the surrealist tradition and raises all sorts of questions of the who? what? where? sort, which is brilliant. I like the way the lines on the floor echo the lines of the frame holding the pictures and the shape of the pictures themselves, and those behind. It is completed by the figure - faceless but still a human presence. I wouldn't change a thing. The boxes on the wall help to ground the viewer and say 'this image is a strange scenario but it is a single moment in a wider context'. A very creative photograph. Jun 24th
99 Jun 25 Comment I'm glad you couldn't catch this man in full flight. That would just be ordinary. Instead you have caught the tension and tiredness and the reaction to the effort he has put into it all; which is much more interesting. There might be those who say you should have inluded the complete board and sail, but, for me, the fact they are cut off increses the taughtness of the picture. After all, we all know the missing pieces are there. It bothers me when some critics complain about things leading the eye out of the picture. For me it helps to emphasise the choices you made when taking the shot. Jun 24th
99 Jun 25 Comment This is a very well executed photograph, both in posing and technical aspects. But - and this is probably just me - it is too staid and 'set-up' for me to really like it. There is a fashion at present for (in the UK particularly) exhibitions to award studio shot, theatrical type photographs quite highly, which I think is a shame. However, I still recognise a well done photo, as this is. Jun 24th
99 Jun 25 Comment I love the drama of this scene. Even without knowing where it is it has a sobering solemnity. I know a lot of immigrants went on to make a happy life, but for many I am sure the image of the Statue of Liberty has a bitter side to it. It is an important focal point in your picture. The tonality and lighting (and control of it) are exquisite. And, of course, the thrust of this story is relevant today. Jun 24th
99 Jun 25 Comment Like Kathleen I immediately thought the building outside the window was a prison! I have always liked relections and here you have explored the ambiguity of inside and outside and which bit is where, all of which keeps me looking at and enjoying your photograph. Jun 24th
