Your group puts on some interesting portrait events. That would be nice to see how others are handling both the set up and images. I'm not quite certain why, but I find portraits particularly challenging. For this one, I like the strap, but also like the hand holding the cloak removed. I agree with Tom that the monochrome conversion fits the title, but it seemed to me that more separation was needed between the cloak and the background, which is tricky with black on black. |

What a beautiful eagle. I like your image with the wings open. As others already mentioned, it is too bad the sky wasn't helping you more, but we don't always get perfect conditions. I do think your cropping out the branch to the left was a good idea, as that brings more attention to the bird. Thanks for sharing the background and some of your other images. It's very interesting, although I probably do not want to know how it smelled! I like the coloration of the vultures there. The ones here with red heads and black bodies aren't quite so photogenic. |

It took me a minute when I viewed this image to realize it is mirrored, so you've done that quite successfully. I'm now wishing I'd taken some wider angle shots in the rooms at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen when I was there in October. The artwork was amazing, but your image here is more effective than any of mine. |

I agree that the lack of awareness of the camera and focus on their game makes this image work well. The work you did on the faces appears to me to have been effective. I personally would like the skirt and bonnet of the girl on the left to be a bit darker, but since she is in the sun, that may be difficult. While the monochrome image is effective, like Somdutt, I also like the color version.

I finally went to Great Sand Dunes N.P. a few years ago, and you are right about the immense size of the dunes. I like the ripples, but agree with Diana that I find the vignette distracting. I don't know how you feel about doing so, but if you're not entering this image in a competition/category where it would be prohibited, what about cloning/coping some of the ripples on top of the middle hill and darker sand from the dune on the right to fill in the hot spots? Given that this is a scanned version of an old film image, as well as a very tricky environment, there's actually far less of an issue with the contrast than I would have anticipated, but filling those in would be a pretty quick, easy fix if you're so inclined. |
