Another challenging rodeo action shot. I agree with you that I don't see a good way to crop out the judges, and cloning them out creates authenticity issues for various reasons. It's too bad the noise presents such a challenge, as already pointed out. But your image does portray the action, and certainly convinces me I'm in no hurry to take up steer wrestling! |

I, too, like the diagonal composition you've presented with this row of canons, and I agree that the monochrome and slight sepia tone in the image help to give it a more historical feeling. Although the background foliage is fine, this also might make a good subject for a panorama to draw even more attention to the canons. It's interesting how the one is so much brighter than the others. I debated whether I'd try darkening it, but I think it being brighter adds some interest. |

Thank you for sharing this image of this beautiful home and some of your wife's family history. While you're correct that a polarizing filter may have cut some of the sun's glare, it likely would have really darkened the clear, blue sky. I often find that I am having to back my circular polarizer off some in those situations. While I realize you wanted to show the home in this image, I'm thinking that you would have a nice vertical image here, also, if you chose to crop that way.

I agree with Tom that when I first viewed this image, I thought you had taken it at night. It seems to me that you've achieved your goal of making the image feel more dramatic. While I like the monochrome image, I also really like the wet fur on the polar bear in the color image, which, to me, is harder to distinguish in the much darker monochrome image. Would brightening the bear's body a little in the monochrome image appear too unnatural? What about darkening the background in the color image? Would that help the bear and water droplets stand out more in the color version? |

How is it already the end of the month yet again? Although you mention using a zoom lens, it appears the crowd was quite large. Were there so many people around you also? Getting any images in that situation had to be quite tricky. Since this event is celebrating vibrance, I prefer the color image here. You also could not and cannot do anything about it, but in the monochrome image, I have trouble unseeing the woman to the right who almost appears to be biting the person in front of her, and the vibrant colors lead me to look more at them than the background people. Blurring was a good idea, and I'd also consider cropping more from the top to just above the singer's head, as you've already got people cut off anyway, and I find it less distracting without the faces at the top of the image. |
