Yes, that is a water stain rather than a shadow. Over the years, the water has permanently discolored the rock there. |

Thank you Manuel. It's nice to meet you, too. Is the luminosity mask you would recommend the one mentioned with your image this month? I'll have to do some investigation. I enjoy taking photos, but my editing skills are much in need of improvement, particularly since I seldom put in the time I should with editing. |

I've attempted many times to take photos of staircases like this one, but I've never done so very successfully. The angle of the staircase and railings and pattern on the floor add interest here. I think I agree with Manuel that the large banister railing on the right would benefit from being a bit darker. However, the other brighter banisters seem fine as they are to me. Unless you're entering this image in a category/competition where altering is not allowed, I think I'd also be tempted to just clone out the light that partially shows below the wood near the top of the image. |

Hello Manuel. Welcome to Group 32, and thank you for your detailed comments and good suggestions for improvements to our images. I have minimal experience with portrait photography, so I look forward to learning more through your images and your skillful editing. To me, the lighting on your subject here is very pleasing. The skin texture is interesting, but I find so much texture a bit overwhelming. However, that may be because I am used to seeing skin softened in nude portraits most of the time. The texture does provide nice detail in this image that likely would be lost if the skin were smoother, though. I'm wondering if placing the necklace just on the right side would seem too unbalanced? |

You've shown us yet another interesting location. I'm very grateful I didn't have to move all those rocks! I tried using an Epson scanner to scan slides for a while, but I wasn't very satisfied with most of my results, and then the scanner quite working. The box you used here did a nice job with this scan. As others already mentioned, I agree that it would be nice to have more space between the top of the pyramid and the edge of the frame. I'd also consider darkening the large, bright rock on the right side a little bit. |

You chose a good subject for your new infrared toy. These old church buildings are so majestic. It's too bad so many are falling into disrepair due to the costs of their upkeep and dwindling congregations. This one appears to be in pretty good shape, however. It seems I am the odd one out, but I actually prefer the wispy clouds and brighter sky in your first image. To me, that just seems closer to how the actual sky would appear. Although I no longer live on the high plains, I still associate black skies with rapidly approaching very scary weather. |

I, too, like the diagonal line of the acorns, but as others already mentioned, some of the surrounding leaves are distracting, particularly the one with the bright spot on the lower right. You mentioned that you use the contrast tool, so I tried a selection on some of the leaves using it and the brightness reduction slider. However, I found that I also had to use the dodge tool to darken the bright spot on the foreground leaf. I possibly created too much of a vignette effect for your and others' taste, but you can see what you think. |
