Yes, I do use the Nik Silve Efex Pro 2 plug in for much of my monochrome conversion. Mine is an older version, I believe, but it does have some interesting options. The borders it insists on adding for its "yellowed" presets don't seem to add anything beneficial to most of my images, though. |

You have a really nice portrait of this beautiful barn owl. I prefer the original background to the all black one, but that's likely not a surprise, as there are very few things I feel still appear natural with black or very dark backgrounds. Good luck with your club competition! |

Rodeo shots are tricky, and you've done a nice job of capturing this image at perfect time with the action and facial expressions. The sepia toning is fitting with all the dust being kicked up by the animals. I think I'd like to see the steer wrestler's hat brim darkened a little bit, but I'm not finding anything I'd change otherwise. While it is something to watch, I really cannot imagine what makes these guys think this is a good idea! |

When I initially viewed this image, I did not notice your wife right away. Thus, I agree with Tom's suggestion to brighten her jacket and make her the focal point. It likely wouldn't work well to try to move her in this image, but I think I would have liked her sitting closer to the left, both to add emphasis to her and to avoid her looking out of the frame, which tends to also draw my eye out of the image and make me wonder what is going on to the right that I can't see. This is an intriguing old theater. But I agree with Wes that I'd need to bring a cushion! |

Eeek! I usually head the other way when I see snakes. But you're right that this one with its interesting scales and forked tongue makes for a nice subject. Out of curiousity, do you know what kind of snake this is? Before even reading the comments, I played with cropping this image tighter from the top and left sides. That may remove too much of the snake's environment for some, but I like the resulting increase in emphasis on the head and tongue. |

I, too, think I like this image better in color. The contrast between the black clock numerals and hands, white background, and beautiful gold trim is intriguing to me.
I've enjoyed the images you've shared with us during your time in our group, and I'll miss seeing them and you. Best wishes!

My apologies for the delay with my comments! Knee injuries are no fun. I hope yours is healing quickly.
I think I agree with the others that I would prefer this image sharper. Of course, I realize that's easier said than done with macro images, particularly if not doing something like focus stacking to control the depth of field. I'm also overwhelmed by the left side being so prevalent and so bright that it is losing detail, at least on my monitor. There still seems to be some detail on the right, which I think helps. As far as a point, I'm not certain how compelling images like this one would be to most international exhibition judges. However, I think some of my "fine art" photography friends would really like them. Regardless, if you enjoy doing them, then it seems to me that others' opinions should be secondary to your own enjoyment. |
