I wish I had good ideas about how to adjust the iPhone image, but I don't have an iPhone, so I'm no help in that regard. I did find a few videos online about how to change the resolution (and effectively, the DPI) by googling how to change the DPI on iPhone cameras, but I don't know if any of them would be of help to you or not.
I'm not noticing the haloing you mention in this image, so it seems your efforts to remove it were effective. The contrast also looks good on my monitor, with detail in the snow. Although you mention keeping the right tree for framing, I, too, like the image cropped in more from the right. I think the two bare branches sticking up to the right of the skier help break up the bare sky.

Like your wife, I probably would have been a bit concerned when an elk this size stepped out of the forest, but it certainly enabled you to get a nice image of the elk looking directly at you and the camera. I do agree that cropping out much of the foreground grass is helpful, as I think either cropping or darkening the bright tree trunk above the right antler would be. I think I, too, may prefer the color image, as it seems to provide more separation between the forest and the dark fur on the elk's neck. |

I haven't tried the "line drawing" technique, although I have used the poster edges filter, which sometimes creates hard lines around the edges of subjects, too. Your lighthouse seems to be a good candidate for the technique. Like Diana, I think I'd prefer a little more detail in the sky. You might even be able to increase the contrast of what you have already to create a "wrinkled paper" sort of effect. |

I am not knowledgeable about olive oil, but apparently it has a lot of different varieties and flavors. There are a couple stores here that have olive oil tasting and sell different varieties. It's curious to me they can do enough business solely in olive oil to pay the rent in their pricey locations, but they are still around, so they must know something I don't. I agree removing the bottom shelf improves the image, and I also prefer the simpler cropping suggested by Diana. The shadows/dark tones are very dark on my monitor, so I'd likely brighten the shadows a little bit. Of course, then others will tell you to darken them! |
