This is a fun image that you timed well to catch the tongue sticking out. Regarding the background, I am very rarely a fan of all black backgrounds, as they often appear very unnatural to me. Thus, I agree with Tom's suggestion to darken the background but still keep some of the details. You have nice detail in the fur. It makes this giraffe look really soft and fuzzy. |

Oh my goodness, I found the juxtaposition of the fierce critter on the headdress and the expression of the dancer, which almost seems as if he recently woke up from a nap, to be something of a story in itself. Before reading the other comments, I was thinking I might like the see the face a little bit lighter, and I see Diana beat me to that thought. I, too, like the way you've cropped this image. |

The monochrome image is nice, but I like how the green door in the color image creates a focal point, particularly since the other surroundings are very warm toned. It looks like this lighting situation would be a challenging one in which to shoot, but you've nonetheless come out with an interesting photo. One of the things I enjoy about this group is all the vicarious travel I get to do.

This is a fantastic action shot of the bear with the fish and the splashing water. It's too bad the gull was right under the bear, but I suppose you could darken it, or even eliminate it if you're not using the photo for nature or travel competition. Seeing so many bears and salmon sounds like an incredible experience. |

When I first saw your images, I questioned the removal of the street light. However, I think you made the right decision to eliminate it, as it likely would have drawn my attention to that corner more so than to the sign and building. I am not always a fan of the receding perspective with multi-story buildings, but I think it works effectively here. |

The otter is nice and sharp, and the cropping doesn't bother me. However, in spite of your adjustments, I am still finding the bright spots in the water to be distracting, particularly those so close to the otter's face. I tried darkening them some more, but couldn't find a good way to do it in my older version of Photoshop without also impacting the whiskers too drastically. As for cropping, I know the European preference tends toward more space around the animal, but not being European, I subscribe to the "crop tighter" school of thought.
I prefer this image without the dark fade at the top and with a little bit less space on the right side. |
