I like the blossom and continue to be impressed with those who can convince orchids to grow and bloom, as I have not been at all successful with orchids. I do find the background light streaks from the wood grain a bit distracting, so I'd likely try converting the background to a full black and adding a white stroke line to frame the image. Your cropping in tightly works well here, I think. |

I don't recall seeing an egg slicer like this previously, so I likely would have guessed it was some sort of vent cover or something of that sort. The dust seems minimal to me, and the scratches enhance the image. I do agree with you and Tom that the extra bright highlights are better toned down or cloned out. I think I kind of like the hinge in the image, though, unless you're intending to emphasize the abstraction and illusion. |

I agree with others that this is a nicely composed image of the greeter. I think I might like the face a little brighter. However, when I tried to adjust it, I wasn't managing to do so in a way I felt was any more successful than what you've done here. I do think darkening the rocking chairs on the left would help keep them from competing with your subject for my attention. I like the warmth of the color image, but the monochrome one does lend itself well to the historic setting. |

Goodness! This appeared very dark when I edited and submitted it, but it now appears very bright. I do believe I need a new monitor calibration tool. |

Here I've been lamenting the very wet weather here in California keeping me from getting outside to explore and photograph. Apparently, I just need to be more creative inside! I like Lynne's adjustments with the increase in the contrast and eliminating the background distractions. I tried rotating the image a bit and creating a vertical image just to see what would happen. It might be interesting to experiment with posterization or pen and ink effects, too. |

This area does appear to be very desolate. I've seen some interesting sky reflection images online from the salt flats in Peru and Bolivia, I believe. I wonder if this area ever holds enough water to do something like that? Of course, I'd not want to try walking in/on them then. Regarding this image, it may be an illusion with the mountains there, but it seems to me that it is leaning slightly down toward the right side. I'd probably make the mountains a bit brighter, too, but that's just my personal preference. |

Thanks for the feedback, Wes. I suspect the line originated from either Silver Effects or my contrast selection and adjustments, as this is the original sky. (We have been very cloudy and wet here in Central California recently, including January 1 when I took this photo.) But you raise a good point that sometimes the editing tools are too much. When I have a moment, I will try this image again with less "structure" and see if it is more effective that way. |
