Yes, I agree that the stamen doesn't work here. I'll be more careful about photographing flowers with my "birding" lens next time!

I like that the engineer's face is very visible in both your color and monochrome images here. The faces often become very difficult to see when they are inside the train. Although this is a very tightly zoomed in image (or a long lens), I think it works well with this subject. I was pleasantly surprised by the Golden Spike National Historic Park was when I visited a few years ago. It's a neat place. |

This is a nicely done still life image. I really like the warm light that is conveyed in the color image, although the monochrome works well, too. Is there some reason that you placed the candlestick and ink well so near the postcard? It doesn't bother me, but a little bit more space seems it might feel more natural. |

I like the repetitive pattern created by the stacked baskets. I agree with others' suggestions that I would have preferred more room at the top of the image. However, that wouldn't be difficult to add by just cloning out the very top basket. Of course, that then creates an issue as to whether an even number of baskets rather than an odd number is less dynamic. With so many, I don't think it would make a difference to me, but I do see how it does make a difference when there are two versus three items in an image. |

Without seeing the color image, the monochrome did immediately make me think of teeth. Converting the image to monochrome to focus on that aspect works well. Hopefully, the recent cold weather wasn't too cold for your plant, as it looks very large and healthy. I like Tom's suggestion to just eliminate the row that is not as sharp. |

It makes me cold just looking at this photo! I, too, like the almost painterly feeling in the color image, as well as how the color emphasizes the church. But I agree with Lynn that the monochrome image conveys the winter mood and feeling well. In the monochrome image, I tried adjusting the shadows a bit to brighten them, and I liked that result, but you may prefer the darker shadows. |

I agree that the angle in this image helps make it more dynamic than it would have been with the tower straight up and down. In addition to Tom's suggestion to remove the white area in the upper right, I'd probably darken the concrete in the lower left corner as well. I'm also wondering if some of the wires, particularly on the left side, would benefit from being a little brighter, as the conversion to monochrome causes them to blend more with dark sky in the background. |
