32 May 22 Comment The Bullock image is a most worthy inspiration. I like the clouds and the reflection of the moonlight on the water in your image. I'm contemplating other cropping options, including a possible vertical crop. You lose some clouds, of course, but I think that also could work. If you do leave it horizontal, have you considered making it a little more off centered? May 26th

32 May 22 Comment This is an intriguing old barn, and I think you handled the contrast on the structure itself well. I also like the foreground grasses as you have them -- brighter rather than darker. I'd perhaps adjust the contrast some more in the sky, but I would not go as dark as Diana has. I've mentioned before that black skies in most daytime landscape images just don't feel very natural to me .... unless perhaps you're photographing a tornado! I do not miss that kind of dark sky weather. May 26th
32 May 22 Comment I agree with the others that this image works well in monochrome. However, the idea of coloring the background lights is interesting, too. Johnson City is a neat area, although I unfortunately have not been there during the holidays. May 26th
32 May 22 Comment I must have seen these air plants on visits to Florida, but I don't remember them, so they probably were among the things I foolishly walked right past in my hurry to find birds or other critters. It really is quite amazing where and how plants manage to grow in what seem to be the least likely of locations sometimes. I like the texture in the tree bark, but I believe I might darken the bright spots some more to better emphasize the unusual air plant. May 25th
32 May 22 Reply Good idea to eliminate that branch to the upper right (unless I decide to make this a nature image, of course), as I agree that darkening it didn't quite solve the problem in the way I'd hoped. May 25th
32 May 22 Comment Your lighting on this animal portrait of Donny is beautifully done and seems very natural in spite of the studio lighting used. Sharpness and contrast also look nice on my monitor. Now, if only you could have convinced Donny to smile for the camera! May 25th
32 May 22 Comment Muir Woods is lovely, but I find it challenging to compose compelling photos there. Your side lighting is a nice idea, but the contrast is losing detail in the shadows and highlights on my monitor. Of course, we've already determined my monitor needs some adjustment, but I see Tom mentioned a similar issue viewing this image on his monitor, also. Even without the sign on top, I'm finding the stake somewhat distracting, and it and the fence likely would preclude this being a nature division image anyway, so I'd recommend removing it. My personal preference here is for the color image this time.
I do miss the year-round rains, and the toll the drought, wildfires, and bark beetles have taken on our Central California forests is quite depressing. After growing up on the prairie, I have a particularly strong attachment to trees and forests, somehow.
