With yet another variant gaining ground, I'm afraid I'm not an objective critic of corona-themed images at the moment! Nonetheless, you've been very creative in formulating and combining the soap bubbles, marbles, etc., although I think I'm seeing what is supposed to be the ogre as a large bison. You didn't actually start with a bison there, did you? |

There are Longhorns, and then there are LOOOOOONGhorns. In reviewing your original image, it would be tricky, but are you able to brighten the shadows on the face any more without it becoming too noisy? I also think the whites in the background music possibly might benefit from being brighter, although that might be an issue with the border as you've presented it here. |

This is a nicely composed portrait. The color version has a nice delicate feeling to it. I do prefer the arm a little darker in the monochrome version, as Stephen and others already suggested. While the image works well as you've presented it here, I also think it would work to crop some of the bottom and elbow out of the image. I struggle immensely with portraits and seldom do them as a result, so I am envious of your beautiful result here.

Hey now! This UT graduate might be just a bit ill-tempered knowing I have to put up with my Oklahoma stepdad and cousins rubbing it in when OU wins, but dangerous?
Longhorn cattle usually are pretty easy-going. However, like humans, some do have stronger personalities than others. |

It is a rather sad commentary on the current times that so many of these beautiful old church buildings have fallen into states of neglect and disrepair. However, the costs of upkeep so often are beyond the means of the congregations these days. I like your composition, and agree with others' suggestions that more contrast might help, if you can manage it without the sky becoming too bright. Do you ever do HDR? In my opinion, it can be too heavy-handed, but this is an image that it seems to me would lend itself well to a little bit of HDR. I'm not getting my HDR filter to work right now, but I did try just some contrast and shadow/highlight adjustment, so you can see what you think about that. |

This past summer we met up with a friend in Las Vegas, and she really wanted to see the Grand Canyon. There was so much haze and smoke that we couldn't see very far, and it wasn't at all photogenic. It's certainly a better view in the winter or spring time, although it is much colder to be out on the canyon rim then. |

Yes, the red rock country is amazing in winter/storm light. Unfortunately, the many dirt roads in that part of the world become an amazing mess in rain and snow, however. |

Thanks Wes. Yes, the added contrast is better. Curiously, my monitor shows my original image to have more contrast, so I'm reminded once again that I really need to get a new monitor calibration tool. I'm concerned the images I'm entering in exhibitions, particularly in monochrome, likely are not projecting the way I am seeing them when I prepare them for submission. |

The way you composed this image likely would not have occurred to me, but I think it works really well to draw attention to the artist, particularly where you cropped tighter and eliminated the bright spot in the background. I'm debating about whether I'd prefer the monochrome image to be just a little bit brighter throughout. Although the color image does bring out the artwork, my preference is the monochrome. It seems a little more intimate. |

Before I read your description, I was trying to figure out how and why you made the edges of a cabbage look fuzzy! The image looks quite sharp to me. Your blacks seem fine, but I'd probably try to brighten the grays of the tubes more if it is possible to do so without losing definition between them and the background. These almost seem like ET faces .... or am I dating myself recalling that movie?! |
