The green color in the original image is interesting, and I think the sky is less overbearing in the color image. However, for me, that version has too much foreground. If the green color is the subject, I think I'd crop in and emphasize that. I think I actually prefer the graphic feel of the monochrome image, but as mentioned, I find the sky in that version more distracting. I do like Stephen's suggestion to keep the shadow in the lower left corner of the monochrome image, as it does mirror the dark upper right building. |

This is effective subject matter for creating strong shadows. To me, the shadows from the forks would stand out even more if the walls behind them were brighter, closer to white than gray, although I think I agree with Tom that you'd want to keep the lines. |

I am not familiar with Adaptalux, but it looks like something that would be intriguing to use to create different backgrounds and lighting effects. I think I agree with several of the others that the subtle range of tones in the color image gets lost in the monochrome conversion, making the color image the more compelling one for me. I do like the brighter part of the monochrome image, though, so perhaps I'd do the opposite of what Diana did and brighten the image more on the right side. |

This is a nice image of this historic home. Thank you for sharing some of its history. You've done well controlling the exposure in the bright cloud in the sky. I think I might like it cropped a bit more from the left side, as that tree being so large competes a bit with the house for my interest. Of course, that would create a nearly square image, which doesn't bother me, but I realize other people don't always like the square format. |

Eagles are so impressive. I think your head shot portrait cropping works well with this image. The torn paper border is fine, but to me, it is a little bit tight at the top of the image. I'd like to see it extended a little bit further above the head. In addition to the detail added to the crown of the head, are you able to add a bit more to the head feathers on the right side? Those look bright on my monitor, but as we've established my monitor needs calibration, that could be the issue. |

I went back and looked at my original, and I believe you are right about it not being as sharp as it should be. I was mostly photographing autumn color and doing some motion blur images with that, and I don't think I took the time to redo my settings very carefully or intentionally. I know better but don't always do better! |

Thanks Wes,
This image does benefit from more contrast, I believe. I think I need to recalibrate my monitor, as I thought I had the contrast set more like you have it here. However, the image I sent to Diana is projecting bright on my monitor now, so something isn't as I believed it to be. Does anyone know if Spyder is still the recommended calibration software? I have a copy, but the CD broke, and it is several years old, so I should replace it anyway. I am not familiar with Imaginomics, but perhaps should investigate. |
