I generally am not a big fan of these kinds of special effects with portraits, as I find they often compete with or distract from the subject. However, I think what you've done here works really well. Now, I'm curious about how to create fairy dust, although I just don't think it will have the same success on my bird photos! |

Although this composition probably isn't something that would have occurred to me, I think it works well to emphasize the beautiful horn. I'm not certain I agree about the color version better showing off the horn. There's something about the tone and reflections in your monochrome version that I think works well to showcase the beauty and obvious care for this instrument. As others already mentioned, the bright upper right corner is distracting. Hopefully, filling that in or reshooting with a slightly different background or angle will resolve that issue. |

Although the photographer in your original image helps convey the size and scale of the yucca plant, I too like the image with just the plant. It seems to better convey the vast emptiness of the area. Most images I see with so much bright white space seem awkward to me, but I think this one works well. Congratulations on the acceptance. |

The fence doesn't bother me, although I might consider darkening the log/wooden part of it a bit. As others already mentioned, the monochrome is effective here, and the overcast sky helps add to the somber mood. This is a particularly nostalgic image for me, as my grandparents' big, old two-story Texas farmhouse was relocated off the family property this past week. So many of these old homes are becoming victims of their age and the changing times, I'm afraid. |

This is another of your intriguing travel destinations. Before I even read any of the other comments, I thought to myself that the whites looked very gray on my monitor. Thus, as Diana and others already suggested, I think the image benefits from increasing the contrast. I'm curious what you found unsatisfactory about your other images of this area? I think a wider angle perspective would be an interesting comparison with the image you've presented here. |

I know very little about portrait photography. However, it seems the pose, background, and even the lighting you've used here suit your subject well. I debated whether I might make the eyes just a little brighter, but it seemed that changed the mood of the image. I do like Diana's suggestions. |
