Thanks for the information. As mentioned, I struggle with lighting and tend to take photos mostly outdoors as a result. I'll have to look into the Bolt lights. |

Actually, I find the color image's contrast between the green trees and browns in the fields interesting. It seems that gets a bit lost in the monochrome image. The way Tom reversed the image also creates a nice leading line and maintains the strong S curve from your original composition that I think works well. |

I like how you've gotten in tight on this orchid blossom and not tried to include the whole thing. Diana's suggestions about cropping and adding contrast help bring out the intricacies of the blossom even more, I think. This almost looks like a mirror image, although I realize it is not. Interesting. I meant to ask about your light source. Was this taken using window light or something else? |

I share Diana's envy, as I am not at all good with orchids. I also like the brighter plant and dark background better than the original image with the lighter background. Your lighting looks very nice and even. Did you use the camera and fill flash all at full strength, or are they adjustable? I find lighting to be a challenge. |

I'm not sure there is too much I can add to what others have already mentioned. It seems the image really needs to either pull back more to better contrast the size of the people and height of the ladders, or perhaps it needs to come in closer to tell the story of the young man appearing to be almost sleeping on the job. While I like the ladders, I find the bright one on the right draws my attention away from the people. Thus, I tried an even tighter crop than Lynne's to emphasize the people more, and also increased the shadow brightness. See what you think. |

As others have already commented, I, too, like the reflection in the sunglasses. However, I'm otherwise having some difficulty making the connection that the person is actually building/designing the sandcastle. To me, it looks almost as if he is trying to look into one of the small windows, which perhaps is another story in itself, but not quite the same one I believe was intended with the title here. I was able to darken the sky by just selecting it, but I think your idea to adjust the color image and then convert would work better to add more contrast and separation, as changing only the selection then adds the problem of halos and getting rid of them. |

Thanks for working on this image, Diana. I agree that the second image feels almost infrared. It's interesting, but I think we've confirmed that this image probably is best left as I had it originally.
