This is a fun image, and I especially like Tom's suggestion to leave only the red. As others have already mentioned, if you are not entering a competition that would forbid doing so, I'd recommend removing the white paper and the boxes (but not the phone of course) just to the left of her head. Although I understand your desire to draw attention to your friend, I also like the idea of leaving more of the wall on the left in the image. |

As many times as I've been through Shattuck, I don't believe I've ever been to the windmill museum. I'll have to try to get there next time. I think you've done a good job with what appears to be a very tricky composition. It would be nice not to have the stands of the background windmills merging with your main subject, but they are so dark that I don't find them to be too much of a distraction. I do like the idea of brightening the rest of the image. I'm not very good with cloning, especially when I do it quickly, but did play a bit with some on the left side here. I agree that the receding line is nice. |

As others have already commented, I like the lead in line created by the wall and the man sitting on it. I like Diana's suggestions about the composition, as I also found the bright buildings on the right competed for my attention. I'm impressed you didn't have more motion blur taking this with your phone. Mine always seems to blur any movement at all, although perhaps the issue is as much or more with me than the phone camera. |

I very seldom do portraits, so am no help with whatever rules there may be. I agree that I did not find anything out of focus, and I think the ethereal look works fine with this image. However, Tom's suggestion to mask parts of the face might help with those judges who say that skin should not be too smooth. Of course, what do I know? I'm getting to the age where I wish I could smooth out some of my wrinkles that seem to show up more every day! I also like the idea of a slightly tighter crop. |

When I showed this at our Council, the judge made the same suggestion to take off some from the bottom, so I need to try that. Yosemite in winter is amazing when we have snow, so I was fortunate to finally have some this winter. I think I like the winter there best, although right now in the spring with the waterfalls and dogwood trees blooming is pretty, too. |

Yikes! Here they always want to sell me the "z" cable chains for my Honda, and I find that those break easily. I can't even count the number I've broken over the years. Usually, I hear the noise and have to stop and take them off, but one did wrap around the axel coming out of Yosemite one evening a few years ago. I could not get it unwrapped, so since I could still drive, I thought I'd have to carefully go down to Oakhurt to a gas station or garage there. A highway patrol officer pulled me over and asked if I was aware I was dragging a chain. (Oh, really?!) I explained the situation, and he told me there was a highway department garage a couple miles further. I pulled in there, and they graciously cut it off for me. Now I have some heavy canvas covers, so hopefully I'll avoid breaking more cables. Winter in the mountains is beautiful, but tire chains are a royal headache. |

My apologies for my belated comments this month.
Although I do like this image in monochrome, I agree with the others that I like the image brighter rather than dark. On my screen, the original image appears to be tilting slightly down toward the right, too. I'm fine without a person in the image, but do like the idea of increasing the contrast more. |
