Your commentary on our busy society where so few people can/will make time to stop and listen or observe what is happening around them is very telling. I think that concept still works with just the people on the left. Like others already mentioned, I find the two people on the right draw my attention away from the rest of the image. I tried a bit wider crop than Stephen's, but still eliminating the people on the right. You can see what you think about it.

Very cute! I agree with Diana's suggestion to darken the background walls some more. It seems to me you also could get away with a tighter crop on the top of the image, too. I'm not seeing too many hot spots from the flash, so it looks like you handled the exposure very well in spite of the tricky lighting situation. |

What a beautiful location. I'm not certain I can add much to what others have already mentioned here. Since I am a bit distracted by the bright fence in the foreground, I like Marla's suggestion to crop and darken it. When I tried just pulling the brightness slider left, that added contrast and darkened the fence. While I think the monochrome conversion works fine, I, too, like the different tones in the mountains in the color version. Alas, I'm not getting the monochrome to translate that well, even with the Topaz plug-ins I tried. |

The cropping does eliminate the background distractions. The image seems very dark on my monitor, though. Was that intentional? I think my personal preference is brighter, but you may prefer it dark. I just selectively adjusted shadows/highlights here. |

Apologies for my late comments! I agree that the effect of the plug in on the mermaid tail and bottom of the image works well. The skin softening doesn't bother me, but on my monitor, the arms do seem very bright. I also am finding the texture in the upper background a bit distracting. Perhaps it's the dark vignetted left side. Have you tried bringing the texture all the way across there? It is very picky, but there are a couple hot spots showing on the left side on my monitor as well, so you may want to darken those. I do like the idea of something a bit different from standard portraits. Hopefully, the judges will, too. |

Silver Effects didn't show a particular problem, but I've tried adding some contrast to the building. I also darkened the sky some more, but had to do it separately, or it added too much noise and streaking. Does this help, or is it too much? The reflection is not water, but rather glass and marble. There is an underground annex on the north side of the capitol, and it has large glass skylights in the ceiling. |
