You've done a nice job of achieving the antiquated look in this image. I think you're probably correct in your assessment that a brighter sky would somewhat diminish that effect. I especially like the shadow of the tree and the foreground grasses. |

Very interesting and creative. The only nitpicks I have are the hat brim does not appear torn in the original, but is here. Was that intentional? Also, her arms, particularly the one to the viewer's left, have a sort of E.T. appearance. Would smoothing help with that, perhaps? |

Let's see .... You forgot to blown out the highlights, and your horizon is only slightly off level. See, it can be worse! ;-) |

I like the stark trees, although I'm a bit conflicted about the gap in between them. Certainly the feeling of something missing or being less than whole is consistent with the events and circumstances memorialized here. But the obsessive compulsive part of me really wants to clone another tree or two to put in the gap! As already suggested, I agree cropping out the wall above them helps emphasize the trees' shapes and starkness. In the Texas Panhandle, trees also were few and far between, so I can relate to Wes's feelings of reverence toward them. |

I, too, like this image, particularly the textures and contrast you've achieved. Have you tried darkening the roof above the girls just a little more. I realize you probably wanted to keep some detail there, and it certainly works as it is, but I think I would like it even better with that area either darker or cropped about half way down the upper board on the left side.

After playing with this on my computer, I decided that I like it better with less dark space at the bottom and cropped in a little bit from the right side. Right now, I keep looking at the stream since it is the bright part of the image. Perhaps adding some more contrast to the mountain and clouds also would help to better emphasize that area as the focal point. It certainly looks like a beautiful valley. |
