Thank you Isaac! I agree, your edit does work very well. I think you're going to be the impetus of a new habit for me of checking for square crops more frequently! |

Adrian, thank you very much! I think sometimes I still am a little too conservative in my editing, as I'm concerned with over-editing, and having other eyes on it helps alleviate that concern so much. I'm going to try out these suggestions this evening. |

Thank you for your feedback, Heather! I appreciate your perspective - I think both ways have value but I'm glad I'm not alone in enjoying the framing as well :) |

Barbara, thank you for your feedback! I kept worrying I was manipulating the shadows too much, so this helps me a lot and I'll go back and do a little more! Thank you! |

Hi Bruce,
Beautifully sharp image of the action. I think some of the sharpening is too strong (at least for me) on the background - especially the upper right of the image. If I'm using Topaz I frequently take the edit and the original into PS and mask out most of the background to avoid any artifacts/grittiness.
Wonderful shot, as always. |

Adrian,
Nice capture of an intimate moment. The crop works to enhance the natural lines and shape created between the baby, Mama, and Mama's reflection. The morsel is the lightest part of the image which also helps to bring the attention in. |

Hi Barbara!
Wonderful capture in a wonderful place. I think that both the original crop and Maria's crop offer successful images. In Maria's, I think she's also cooled it down which allows for the blues of the water and yellows of the sun on the turtle's back to work together without being distracted by muted greens - and I love that.
The original crop really holds my eyes. I think it's important to leave the top of the image as it completes the triangle formed by the log. I feel like this composition works better when the colors are left more muted, as contrast in the colors might distract from the shapes.
Very nice work, looking forward to seeing more!

Fun capture! I think the transfer to B/W and the crop are both working well, the scene seems less like an enclosure and so my first thought was of behavior caught in the wild, not in a zoo. I think Maria has nailed it on the highlights and her edit is more inviting to my eyes.
Nice sharp image, and a commendable use of a 1x1 crop as well. |

Outstanding image. I think the suggestions to increase contrast are great as a way to bring more attention to the eye cleaning, as I didn't notice it until reading your description but this detail really makes the image stand out in it's class. |

Lovely bee Barbara!
I find myself in agreeance with Isaac. The reflected yellow on the bee muddles it a bit for me and accents the fact that it's shadowed. The left side of the flower, the brightest part of the image, adds a lot of weight, brings my eyes out to the empty space, and leaves them there. I think a tighter crop helps tone that down.
Nice job! |
