72 May 24 Comment Hi Adrian!

Fun story, always nice to get easy wildlife viewing.

I agree that the splash would make an important contribution to the photo. I think including it will also cut down on the degradation to clarity that such an extreme crop has produced.

72 May 24 Comment Isaac, what a wonderful shot of this little critter! I love that the eye is sharp, bright, and commands attention. I think a polarizing filter would have helped this image quite a bit - the reflections, especially the one on it's head, are distracting, and I'd love to see more of the texture of it's skin underwater.

I'm interested in seeing more of these if you have other shots!

72 May 24 Comment Hi Leah

Nice Iris I think! Nice color, the important part is in focus and doesn't distract. The background, as noted by others, does detract from the image, and the light on the front right petal is more harsh than the rest of the image, when is a bit jarring for me. I think you've done the best possible job with the original - but there's some opportunity for improvements from the shooting standpoint. U agree with Bruce that utilizing a zoom lens and changing your position could have improved the depth of field. For nurseries, I also bring a bounce and a small scrim so that I can control the light a bit more.

I do quite a bit of stacking, and would be happy to offer any assistance I can in the future! As Isaac noted, most cameras can do this in the menus, but I think there's also value in learning to do it manually and then starting to use the camera - that way in post you know exactly what you're doing with the data. The biggest concerns with focus stacking shots like this one are focus breathing, and movement of the subject. Having a lens with zero-to-little focus breathing makes things so much smoother in post. Being in a nursery cuts down on movement, so I think this could be a prime place for you to practice stacking.

I'm excited to see more from you!

72 May 24 Comment What a fun shot! Everything is perfect. I think all of the crops presented are strong options - proof of the strong photo. Nice capture! May 16th
72 May 24 Comment Hi Maria!

I love the shot - great subject, everything is crisp, and the sky isn't blown out. I agree about lightening the eyes - currently I think they're having to compete too much with the light sky directly to the left of his head. I also might try to find a 2x3 portrait crop to accentuate the length of his body, but I didn't try myself and it might just not work!

Again, wonderful image, one to be proud of!

72 May 24 Comment Hi Bruce!

Nice capture of the Cara Cara. It's interesting to see one from ground level face to face like this. The focus is right where it needs to be and there's no distracting tangents. I do wonder if the green grass overpowers or muddles the yellows and browns of the subject, and might try dropping greens 10 pts or adjusting tint just a hair towards purple. Thats nitpicking though! Solid image!
