31 Jul 25 Reply Hey Peter, thanks for the comments! I got lucky with the sidelight. There are a few outbuildings that have exterior lighting on them so the lighthouse picked that up. I use the square format on a lot of my photography and like the balance it gives the photos. Jul 16th

31 Jul 25 Comment Hello Ella,

This still life certainly has a beautiful glamour and femininity feel to it. I like the composition and how the flowers and pearls offset the rigid form of the shoe - balancing the hard and soft textures.

This certainly isn't my genre but I'm wondering if a little more contrast or subtle side lighting would help separate the objects from the backdrop?

31 Jul 25 Comment Hello Susan,

I'm jealous, Namibia was always on my bucket list of places to visit but I doubt that I'll make it now.

I think B&W was a great choice for this. The diagonals through the frame and the light coming from the windows on the left just draw you into the center.

Very nice!

31 Jul 25 Comment Hi Ian,

Great shot, I like the use of the high shutter speed to capture the droplets. Almost feel like I need to duck and get out of the way! This would make a great poster for the event.

By the way, congratulations on your retirement. More time for photography!

31 Jul 25 Comment Hello Peter,

One of my two favorite places to visit - Iceland and Utah. I've seen a lot of photos of the Vik Myrdal Chruch with the sea stacks in the background but never from this angle. I like how the church spire and the sea stacks mimic each other creating a strong, layered composition. I can even see the birds flying around the sea stacks! Love it!

31 Jul 25 Comment Hi John,

I like the raw, rustic vibe the photo projects! What's really nice is how the light hits the fibers, it's like you can almost feel how scratchy and brittle they are.

I might have darkened the edges a little to draw you more to the center and I think the rope has lost some detail due to the blown-out highlights. But since you've used a High Structure Harsh preset, that may be your intent. Overall, an interesting capture.
