Thanks Peter! The turnoff to the spire is located about 7 miles west of Hanksville on 24 and then 2 more miles across the mud flats. If you're ever back out in the area and want to see it, let me know and I'll send you the GPS coordinates to get there. |

Congrats on becoming a media member!
I like how you've captured the unity and grace of the dancers. The contrast against the dark background really highlights their flowing skirts and expressive faces, creating a sense of movement and emotion. I think Peter is right about lifting the shadows and creating a little more contrast in their clothing. |

Thank you, Melissa! I love to photograph the moon and exposure bracketing is the best way to capture the image. |

Ella,
I love this still life photograph; I think it's a beautifully arranged composition. Being B&W emphasizes the textures and shapes, allowing you to focus on the intricate details of the pottery, the contrast between the smooth ceramic surfaces and the soft, wispy texture of the dried grasses. It feels balanced, with the taller vase on the left anchoring the composition and the pitcher on the right adding a dynamic curve with its handle.
A slight critique would be to consider adding a touch more contrast to highlight the details on the vases and beads, which could enhance the visual impact. Overall, I believe this is a thoughtfully arranged and well-executed image.

Susan,
This is a great minimalist capture of a beautiful church with bold, striking architecture. The clean, white walls pop against the dark sky, giving it a surreal, almost dreamlike feel. I like the church isolated against the simple background, my focus goes straight to its unique details, like the crosses and the shadowy entrance. The soft, directional lighting creates gentle shadows, highlighting the church's shape and giving it a sculptural look.
If I could make one small suggestion, maybe adding a bit of texture or toning down the walls could add some subtle depth, they seem to be blown out a little. But overall, it's an elegant, well-composed photo that uses light and contrast perfectly.

Ed,
I think this photo does an amazing job capturing a long, symmetrical hallway that feels like it goes on forever. I like the stark, almost cold atmosphere, highlighting the repeating patterns on the ceiling, walls, and carpet. The strong lines pull my eyes straight down the center, creating a tunnel effect that feels both inviting and a bit unsettling-like something out of a thriller or surreal movie. The lighting gives it a lonely, monotonous feel, with the doors on each side casting shadows that add texture and rhythm. The symmetry and vanishing point are spot-on, adding to the eerie vibe.
If I could suggest one thing, maybe adding a bit more contrast or highlights could bring out more texture in the carpet and walls for extra detail. Overall, it's a compelling image that uses composition and tone really well to give a sense of endlessness and solitude.

Peter,
This photo has a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere that really draws me in. The cemetery, with its strong contrast and depth, feels even eerier in black and white. I think the old, worn tombstones leaning in different directions add a sense of age and decay. The ruined abbey in the background enhances the gothic mood, tying together the foreground and background. The cloudy sky adds movement and a slightly ominous tone, perfectly matching the somber cemetery below. I love how the contrast and detail in the tombstones and clouds create a layered, deep scene. Overall, I find this to be a striking image. |

John,
I love how peaceful this shot feels with the single bird floating on the water. The B&W look really makes the bird stand out against the interesting patterns in the water. My eyes naturally follow the lines from the top down to the bird, which creates a calm but engaging effect. Maybe cropping in a bit closer or moving the bird off-center could make the movement even stronger and emphasize the textures in the water. But still, it's a beautifully simple and balanced photo. |
