Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
54 May 24 Reply Thanks Maria for your comments. I concur with your improvements. When I was building the image, shadows and light colour were tricky, and can make or break a composite's "believeability".
My dilemma is that its night in dark old London, and dark means cold light thats why I went for that tone. However I will try and warm the light and see what happens. The shadow on Jack's face again its a matter of finding the right level of shadow. From my experience, little is more when it comes to shadows, but I will give it a try. Many thanks for the tips.

54 May 24 Comment Hi Maria,
My first impression was wow, and it continues to be wow.
1. Has story
2. Has composition
3. has camera technique
4. has output quality
5. Lighting ? this where the others in the group have mentioned.
* Cant see any detail in the dark SHADOW areas bottom RHS
* Highlights at the side of the lone tree (LHS) look blown with no detail.
These two points are realtively minor when taken into context of the excellent blending work and holistic feel of the whole finished composite image. I would say this would be accepted at any salon and could maybe get an award.

54 May 24 Comment Thank you Kirsti, glad you liked it.
The "Gloomy Courtyard" is in Edinburgh's Old Town, its called "Bakehouse Close".
A "Close" is Scots means Alleyway or path between buidings. And in this close was Bakery.
This is going back to medievil times.
This area is very similar to how London looked at these times, so seemed fitting.
Cheers, for now. Bruce

54 May 24 Comment Hi Brad, Great image, love it.
If it were mine, I would help the viewer by changing the title, " Howling at the Moon". This would help the instant story telling of the image. Judges have usually less than 1 minute to make up their minds, and this would help them, and would be appreciated. Also I would shift the moon to top RHS, onto the top right part of the grid, to help composition, the now its too central.
The rest is brilliant, would do ok in competition.
Please ignore changes if you dont agree, as its purely subjective. Dont know if I will survive in this group as I dont like critising other folks work, as its all down to taste, and what each likes.

54 May 24 Comment Hi Peggy,
Like you image very much. In building a composite image, I have been caught out a couple of times by judges on light placement and shadows. Your image quite rightly has the subject in the brightest area of the image, but the subject needs to retain more of its natural colour as most is in shadow from the backlit background. I have attached a quick version of what I mean.
The shadow detail also separates the bird more from the background which we as creatives always seek.
Apart from that a lovely image.

54 May 24 Reply Hi Kirsti, your final image is wonderful. I agree the full halo works well and completes the story. Well done. May 5th
54 May 24 Comment Hi Kirsti,
Greetings from bonnie Scotland to friends across the North Sea in Scandanavia.
I am new to the group and don't know how I will get on Critiquing other people's images. I find it difficult to find fault with anyone's images as its all down to personal taste. ie. Subjective.
Love your image and the story.
In the western world we read left to right, and photos are read in a similar manner by the viewer. I have attached an alternative presentation to fit with this format, and puts the birds on the lower and upper third of the grid. Have also adjusted the LEVELS. You may like this or not. Skol, Bruce

54 May 24 Reply Thanks for the nice welcome.
Hands in portraits are often no no, as they are usually bright, distracting, and just there....
If they are doing something that usually helps. Also Gentlemen in these times were found to carry canes as part of the dress code in posher parts of London. As the cane is not bright or distracting, and doing something I think I will leave it in.
Thanks for your comments.
