Thanks Pete. I did play with the lighting with the flower quite a bit which was the fun part of creating this image. I like how you emphasized the S shape of the flower.

Thanks for your feedback, Israel. I went back and compared the uncompressed version in Lightroom with the JPEG version. Looks like the compressed version removed the texture from the flower. In the original version, there is texture in the upper left of the flower but not in the JPEG version. I may have had compression turned up too much. Next time, I'll to make sure I compare the original version with the compressed version. |

Pete,
I think you did a great job in converting this image to monochrome. I like how the Capitol stands out on the dark sky. One suggestion I have is to crop a little more on the left side. To me the trees on the left side are distracting me from the Capitol. See what you think of my crop. Other than this a great image. |

Mark,
Based on your intro to your image, sounds like you spent a lot of time exploring and shooting to get the right image. I really do like the composition and tonal qualities of the image.

Emil,
Nice image. I do like the way you converted the image to monochrome. The only area where I could think of improving the image is with the making the center leaf more prominent. Like Pete, I tried a couple of techniques to highlight the center leaf a little more. Upload my version. Just of out of curiosity, I noticed you flipped your image. What was your thoughts around flipping the image?
Thanks,
Chris |

Mandy,
I like the moment you capture between the mother and the fold. It really does tell a story. My thoughts around the image mirror Emil's and Pete's thoughts. When I first looked at the image my thought was how could the zebras stand out more from the background and become more the center of attention. Both Emil and Pete have provided good techniques to make that possible.

Thanks Israel for your feedback. Both you and Emil mentioned adding more texture. I can definitely add more texture to the flower. In your mind, how does this improve the image? I am struggling with the "why" in adding more texture. |

Israel,
I do like this image. Capturing an artist in their workshop allows you to see more than their work or them. The type of the tools in this image and how the workshop is organized allows you tells a story about this person. For example, he must really care about the organization of his tools as you can see that he has painted outlines of his tools. This really captures the personality of this person. Very nice capture and I like these types of images.
In looking at this image, I felt the image was too flat in contrast and the crop of the image did not focus on the person. I created my own version with more contrast and a different crop to show you my thoughts.
Thanks for sharing this image. |

Emil,
Thanks for the feedback. I used the Structure setting in Nik Silver Efex to give the petals extra texture. Using the midtones slider, I can add more texture to the petals. I did spend some time moving the slider to different points. I didn't want too much texture as I wanted to keep some softness to the flower. |
