Maybe what happened is instead of softening just the edge of the plant you extended the blur into the background |

I don't know how you softened it but it looks similar to what I sometimes get when there's a big gap in my DOF. It looks like a blurry Vaseline almost. It's subtle in your photo but I see it when I enlarge it |

I like the background and like the frame as well. I like your angle of flower and DOF is OK with me as well. My main comment is there is blurry haze around many parts. This is so annoying when it happens. To save the photo I go in with the clone tool and carefully clone it away. I am surprised you had this happen as usually I get it when I don't have a small enough aperture or enough layers when I stack, not in a single photo. I have had it also though in a. single photo when the DOF is set too narrow for what I am shooting |

I like your composition. I think if more was in focus the photo would be better. Probably needed more stacking layers. I don't see the red anywhere. Color looks OK to me |
