93 May 24 Reply Also - when viewed full there's some posterization in the deep shadows right below and to the left of the central subject. Maybe that's just the jpeg compression to get it to the acceptable size for this group? May 14th
93 May 24 Comment Ed,

I agree with Darcy about the pedal softness being distracting. If you had to shoot at f8 and couldn't focus stack, I think I would have chosen to prioritize sharpness of the pedals and stamen over the leaves. Otherwise a beautiful image. I love the colors!

93 May 24 Comment Pretty close to perfection for me. I love the soft grey values and don't find it overly high-key. If I were nitpicking I find the pedal sticking up out of the lower left corner (belonging to another flower) to be slightly distracting and I think it would be stronger if it wasn't there. The brightness on the background pedal on the upper right corner also pull my eye - I think this could be addressed just by burning that specific pedal if you agreed. Finally (and a true nitpick) - you have some pretty visible dust spots that I would fix before I printed and hung this (which you absolutely should, it's beautiful!) May 14th
93 May 24 Comment Darcy,

Nice capture and I like the leading line down what I assume is a couloir. The scrubby trees poking into the couloir in the lower left of the frame grab my eye. If it were my photo I might try cloning those out. Also I might dodge the dark shadows in the cliff side on the right at the top of the V, just to make those shadows lighter than the foreground shadows so that you have a more layered dark-to-light transitions in the black point as you get deeper into the scene.

Love the pebbled riverbed foreground. Beautiful textures. For me, the bright ice really pulls my eye down and to the left out of frame. I wonder if you could combat this with some creative vignetting in the lower part of the picture to help push the eye up into your primary subject.

93 May 24 Comment Hi Darcy,

I'd love to understand more about what irks you about the sun. Can you elaborate?
