I love the different rock colors/textures so much that can be done with a simple crop.
The choice to show the desolation I'm assuming is the goal. You might consider cropping out the stand of flowers at the bottom right. They suggest there is more to the area that might be flowering. The stand of plants/flowers near the top could be kept to keep the feel of being isolated. It is just the ones at the bottom the suggest there is more.
The harsh light also helps with the feel.
Regardless, interesting area and good photo! |

Brian - sure this wasn't Arkansas about 6 months earlier?! Very familiar scene!
Best catch for me was catching the fog/clouds at the correct time. There are several locations around me where I seem to catch the clouds too low (not much to see) or too high (misses the scene). You got everything to come together.
Another area I would like to point out as a win in this photo is the color of the greens. Earlier in the year and the greens around here are too... well ... light and green. This looks well into summer and the leaves are at the best colors and texture - in my opinion. To get the fog/clouds and the greens all to come together.... amazing!
And the bonus is the little structure near the middle... Nice! |

Wow! Amazing work to pulling those images together and having a lovely result. Good colors and contrast!
The only maybe to add would be to lighting up the far right cave / inlet, but that is pretty small. |
